rolfecms Posted December 30, 2008 #26 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Construction has begun on bigger and wider locks to accommodate the larger cargo ships and cruise ships that cannot use the canal now. So maybe one day Solstice can, in fact, cruise through the canal. Does anyone know when the wider Panama Canal is supposed to be ready?
dsulli Posted December 30, 2008 #27 Share Posted December 30, 2008 We have an Aqua Spa cabin on the Solstice sailing next week. We plan to eat in the Blu dining room every night. My wife requires a gluten free diet so it's nice to hear about their willingness to adjust the menu. We are traveling alone but prefer to eat at a larger table with other guests. We are on main seating but not sure they even asked about table size. Are their any larger tables in Blu? Did you get an assigned table?
Oren Posted December 30, 2008 Author #28 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Yes there is an assigned table seating. We had two tables for two pushed together. I saw that they can push pairs of tables together (e.g. 2-4-6). There were a few round tables of four and six. Work with the asst. Maitre'd as he was fantastic. Thre were people around us who had food allergies (e.g. peanuts) and vegetarians and the Asst' Maitre'd was more than accomodating with day-before notice so he can have the chef prepare appropriately. GACRUISER456 Posted December 30, 2008 #29 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Can you please tell me if there were many decorations for Christmas? Any special activities? Also, do you know if they offered a Catholic mass or at least a Christian service for Christmas? We might consider this for next year's family holiday. Thanks! Oren Posted December 30, 2008 Author #30 Share Posted December 30, 2008 There were holiday decorations everywhere. There was mass at midnight, crew holiday singing, barbershop quartet, and hanuakah candlelighting everynight during this week. In fact, the crew was very sensitive to everyones holiday observances by always replying with "Happy Holidays" rather than reference any one specific holiday. yvrdave Posted December 31, 2008 #31 Share Posted December 31, 2008 Does anyone know when the wider Panama Canal is supposed to be ready? Supposedly by 2015.
rolfecms Posted December 31, 2008 #32 Share Posted December 31, 2008 Supposedly by 2015. Thanks, but I don't think I can wait that long to do the canal on an S-class ship!

valandjerry Posted January 2, 2009 #35 Share Posted January 2, 2009 could you please tell me what two nights were formal. I am on the March 29 sailing and am guessing that it is Monday a sea day and Thursday the short day in Tortola. Thank You
Peteymil Posted January 2, 2009 #36 Share Posted January 2, 2009 The formal nights were Monday and Friday. Christmas Eve was an additional optional formal night, but of course that would not apply!
