smw0621 Posted December 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2008 We'll be heading to Curacao next month (I can't wait) and would love to try snorkeling there, where's the best place to go? Should I go through the ship or can I reserve someplace via online or phone? Thanks
cruiseapril Posted December 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2008 There are many good snorkeling places in Curacao. Playa Porto Mari is one and there is a good thread here describing it. We took the Beach Express this year to Blue Bay with a cruise ship excursion. We swam and the snorkelers around us were delighted with the amount of fish. The good thing about this excursion is that the snorkeling equipment and even lessons- were included in the price.
GCurry Posted December 31, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2008 We rented a car from Avis at the Mega Pier and drove the island. I have my own gear and snorkeled twice, at Tugboat out on the Eastern end, and past the breakwater at Mambo Beach. I was all alone at tugboat which was fantastic and only in about 10 feet of water. There is an old fort to see there as well. http://www.shorediving.com/Earth/ABC/Curacao/index.htm Sea Aquarium beach, Mambo, and what was Kon Tiki share the same parking lot. They were full of Europeans on holiday. There are gaps in the breakwater you can get through or swim around the end. Outside it was like tugboat, beautiful clear water with tons of fish. I followed three squid for a time, they were fascinating to watch. Mambo does have a very good beach restaurant. This is one hopping island and the traffic moves pretty quick as opposed to Aruba so watch for brown signs. The car did allow us to restock supplies at a Best Buy food store, it's a good place to buy Blue Curacao.
