Bangkok Day Tours

Has anyone used them? we are booked in Feb for Legend of the Seas and have booked Bangkok Day Tours to handle our touring on both days we are in port. Awhile back there were a few people who had booked them as well but none ever came back to post their experiences. (And please dont tell me I should book Tong as she never responded to my email, so I conclude that she is already booked). Thanks for any info as we expect Bangkok to be the highlght of this trip and have all our expectations riding on Bangkok Day Tours

We used this company during our stay in Bangkok and I can highly recommend it!

Making reservations and communicating through email was fast and efficient. On our full day tour we had a very clean van, polite driver and very friendly guide. We were also able to make some last minute changes to our tour in the morning of our trip, so they were also flexible. :)

Hi Helen

We're also on Legend in Feb and we've booked with them to go upto Ayutthaya on the day we arrive. Second day we've got no real plans as we were only in Bangkok a couple of years ago. Trying to work out if we can just get the train back up to the city.

Thanks for the responses. I had a moment of doubt but feel reassured now. Newfarmers I think you are on the trip just ahead of us. We are going Feb 28. Not been to Bangkok before so we will do Tiger Temple etc on day 1, overnight at the Oriental and then do a city tour. I have fingers crossed for all political disputes to be resolved before we leave, as I really expect this to be the highlight for us. Thanks again Cruiser77.

Sorry for not having posted earlier about my experiences with Bangkok Day Tours...had a wonderful day with them going to Tiger Temple (and on the way, the floating market and the Bridge on the River Kwai) Our guide, Maya, was delightful and we couldn't have asked for a better companion.

My wife and I just returned from a cruise on Azamara Quest with Bangkok one of the stops. We and another couple booked a full day tour to the Tiger Temple and Bridge on the River Kwai with Bangkok Day Tours. Dennis Hansen, a New Zealander and the owner of Bangkok Day Tours, appeared at the pier promptly on time with a very nice 7 passenger van, driver and one of his employed guides. We had a perfect day with them. The next day we had Dennis take us through the Royal Palace in Bangkok. Based on our experience we would definitely use Bangkok Day Tours again should we ever be back in Bangkok. Highly recommended.

The only bad experience we had throughout Southeast Asia with private guides was this one. The only time we saw Dennis was to collect the money. Otherwise, we had a guy who didn't speak English drive us like crazy for hours on end, and then we were too late for the Tiger Temple and almost missed the elephant ride. We had no food or water for about 10 hours straight. The next day, we had two young girls that basically didn't speak English to show us around. The only way we got to know any information is because we overheard other tour guides at the temple. It is really a long drive to get to the Tiger Temple and Elephant Ride he booked us on, so think twice about going to the closer places, in case you are delayed at all getting off the ship. I am glad to hear others had a better experience than we did.

Thanks Gail! Will you be posting a review of your trip?

Helen

Hi, we returned today from our Legend cruise down the coast of SE Asia. We used Dennis and Bangkok Day Tours for a day trip to Ayutthaya from Laem Chabang. Although pricey (each quote we received was over AUD400) we decidied on BDT due to positive feedback on the boards and laso because we found Dennis is a kiwi as is my partner Al.

We were originally just going there and back and then decided to stay o/n down at Pattaya. Contacted Dennis and let him know and he said it would be no problem to drop us there instead of the ship.

Whilst onboard we found we'd need our passports if we were staying overnight and the ever helpful and friendly (not) front desk staff informed us it would be at least an hour and possibly and hour and a half after docking that we'd be able to collect our passports.

Another email to Dennis letting him know we'd come back to the ship as we'd prefer to leave straight away in the morning and then come back to the ship and make our own way to Pattaya.

Docked early (due 8am), less than 30 minutes maybe, and the captain surprised us by announcing at 7.55 that ship had been cleared. THis emant passports ahd been stamped so went down to desk and was handed passport. Bizarre.

Mad pack as we'd planned on doing it when we got back and we were out on the ship and in the cruise terminal before 8.15. Dennis came in just after and we all intriduced ourselves. He went through our itinerary and the driver went to get the car. We asked if we could change back to Pattaya drop-off and Dennis said no problem.

While we were waiting he explained that the port officials/immigration officials/Thai officials in general are very fickle. When Legend docked less than two weeks before she had been directed to one of the container berths and not the terminal even though it was not being used. Another ship wasn't cleared for more than four hours after arriving. We love to blame the cruise line but it's often out of their hands.

Our driver pulled up in a large SUV type vehicle - all cream leather and overhead DVD player. Cold bottles of water in the door pockets.

Rapid trip out to Ayutthaya where we picked up our guide Ah. He was wonderful, had grown up in the town, and was clearly very proud. He explained that if we had specific sites we wanted to see he would mould trip around that. We left it to him and saw everything we wanted to.

Price included a long tail boat ride around the island and a visit to an elephant rescue centre that was fantastic. Lunch was also included (exclusive of alcoholic beverages) at a local restaurant. We will let Dennic know that although the food was good, the price we paid should have included a better restaurant. It was a minor thing in a terrific day

Our driver then sped us back to Pattaya and dropped us at the door of our hotel.

Some have said the only contact with Dennis is meeting him at the terminal. We think that is more than enough. If he hadn't been there we wouldn't have cared less. We just need a board with our names on it and this time Dennis was holding it.

Expecting him to be there is a bit like saying you want Richard Branson to see you off every time you fly Virgin Atlantic.

Highly recommended.

Thanks for your positive feedback on Bangkok Day Tours. We have scheduled a trip to Ayutthaya from Bangkok with this company in April so appreciated your feedback. Hopefully we will have the same guide in Ayutthaya since you said he was very good.

We are still on board the Legend and I agree with you, Newfarmers, BDT was just great and we had a wonderful time. Our guide was May who was cute as a button. Dennis was at the terminal when we docked and also came by at lunch on the second day to say hello and ask if all was satisfactory. we also hghly recommnd this company.. will post full review of this trip when we get back. so far (day 7) no complaints and having great time

Helen,

We are on the Legend 21 April starting in Shanghai and have booked Dennis for 2 days when we get to Bangkok. He was very helpful on email communications and sounds like we chose the right tour group. Looking forward to reading your cruise review, as there has not been one since early January. Hope you are having a wonderful trip.
