Ponta Delgada

Our ships is stopping at Ponta Delgada. It lists the arrival time of 9.00 a.m. Is this when the ship arrives, or when its reading for debarkation?

 

In other words, if we book a tour for 9;30, what are our chances of making it on time?

If you're booking a private tour, they'll wait for you. We stopped in Ponta Delgada on our TA in November and loved it. An absolutely beautiful island! Enjoy..................

Hi Phoenix1181. Did you take a private tour, and if so can you recommend them? What are the must see's? Going crazy trying to figure out what tours we want to take on our April TA. Not too fond of ships tours.

We did a tour with Amazing Tours. http://www.amazingtours.se/ Ricardo was booked but he set us up with Claudio who was excellent. We covered the entire island seeing a lot more than we would have on a ship tour for not a lot more money. Four of us, 8 hours, 160 euros (he was so good we added a nice tip but it's certainly not mandatory). Lunch for five was 50 euros including tip and there were plenty of leftovers for Claudio to take home to the family.

We went at our own pace and were very comfortable in a clean, well maintained, vehicle. Claudio spoke excellent English (as does Ricardo) and is extremely knowledgeable. As he drove, and at each stop, he provided some history and interesting facts. They book up quickly so if you're interested, contact Ricardo soon.

We will be on the Gem TA in April. If you join the roll call for your sailing, you will probably find someone who would like to join you on a tour. I did that for our Rome and Livorno stops and have joined with two other couples for both tours.
