Ohio-C-Luver Posted January 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Has anyone taken the 7 hour excursion to see the Embera Village? :)How was it? Were the prices for handmade items cheaper or more expensive in the village or at Cristibal pier? :confused:Thanks for any information. We are thinking of booking this excursion in Panama. Jan
NJ Gal Posted January 11, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2009 I agree that I would like to know if anyone has taken this tour with RC. What was your experience? Was this the authentic village? All comments and info appreciated. NJ Gal-Evelyn
moggyhill Posted January 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2009 We went on HAL tour to the indians. It was fabulous. Just seeing the poor road conditions on the way there was worth it alone. Really, I have never seen such poor road conditions in my life. The indians do live in the villages. Ours had a couple of basketball hoops at the top of the hill. We also heard that they keep a tv set hidden from view. They were beautiful and friendly people. The prices of the crafts were the same as you could get on the pier. However when you are in the village you see the artisan of the pieces so that makes it more special. They take US dollars but bring enough small bills as they can not always make change. Most of them speak spanish so if you are fluent it is nice to converse with them. I think it was really worth it. Also FYI there have been armed holdups of tourist buses. HAL provided us with armed police escorts. Make sure your ship does the same as Panama is not safe.
Ohio-C-Luver Posted January 12, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted January 12, 2009 Thanks so much for your comments and information. We will ask RCCL what they are doing about security since they will not let us take private excursions at the canal, only ones sponsored by the ship!
