Souvenirs

Two from Virginia

For those of you who have been to Alaska, what was the best souvenir bought? I would think most of the shops near the pier would be tourist traps.

the best souvenir i bought was an Ulu knife set and some really nice wood salad tongs that say alaska on them !!! i think because i love to cook these things were perfect...

also in juneau right by where the ship docks theres a store there i think its called the trading company or it might be next to that, its very inexpensive , we found nice shirts for 10$ and under, sweaters for 10$ and plus it has a whole bunch of pharmacy like items, or anything you might need on the ship if you forgot something, plus snacks, soda etc..

it was the only inexpensive place i found in alaska to shop out of the places we went too..

hope this helps ..

Me too!!!

Mine is the Ulu Factory bowl/knife set and it gets daily use. Great for chopping salad fixin's. Good quality, reasonable price, and not the made in China junk. Check the history link for interesting trivia on the origination of this native tool.

My next souvenir will be one of the following. Decisions, decisions... :) We ran across their products at the Anchorage Market. Beautiful!

We also have the ulu knife and wooden bowl from the factory. My husband uses it quite a bit.

My favorite souviner though is my fur parka from David Green's store. I saw it in Anchorage in the store window and then ordered it in Ketchikan at the David Green store there. I looked at a lot of furs inbetween and still liked the one I'd seen in Anchorage best. I'm wearing it this winter and love it.

Absolutely the ulu knife and chopping board. Make sure it is authentic Alaskan, not made in China. If you stay over in Anchorage, we got a beautiful knife at the Saturday Market as a gift and the blade was carbon steel rather than stainless steel with caribou handle. My daughter-in-law loves it.

I also got a nice 11 x 14 photo mat with Alaska map and 5 other cutout's for my 6 favorite photos. Look at it every day and remember our wonderful trip last June.

Anyone not wanting to carry them home, you can buy these items from on line stores. After I got home and looked at all my photos, I had to order 3 more albums for all the ones I wanted printed! :D
