chamima Posted January 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2009 Has anyone done Asa Wright and/or Maracas Beach in Trinidad with a taxi from the port on your own? I'm concerned about safety as everyone seems to intimate that Trinidad isn't the safest island. We are in port from 8 to 5 and I'd want to be back by 4 but the biggest issue for me is safety. ming Posted January 9, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2009 "Has anyone done Asa Wright and/or Maracas Beach in Trinidad?" We did the Emperor Valley Zoo and Maracas via taxi a couple of years ago. We did fine going to the beach, but coming back from the zoo the cabby stopped miles away from the cruise dock and demanded payment PLUS a $100US tip! I paid him what we had agreed upon (NO TIP!) and we walked back to the ship (3-4 miles?) by ourselves. No other cabs anywhere near us...way up in the mountains! Spooky, scarey walk back I'll tell you! Looking back, I think if we had a party of four, rather than two, we might have been OK. The zoo, by the way is a wonderful attraction. If I only could see one thing in Trinidad, it would be the zoo. Tour in numbers for safety would be my caveat. Please do not stay on the ship, it is really a wonderful island.
