Folgy Posted April 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2004 The Holland America Amsterdam just sailed into Vancouver this morning . It is the first ship of the season to start the Alaskan Cruises for the Summer. There is concern that the Tug Boat operators strike may cause cancellations and delayed cruises if this happens. So far things are still operating as normal. I'm concerned as I am sailing on the Serenade of the Seas this August to Alaska. I sure hope the strike is settled

Serious Cruisers Posted April 22, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2004 This mornings Vancouver news explained Tugs are needed for refueling, food and other maitenance. Vancouver is very worried about what the impact will be if this strike is not settled. Rerouting or cancelling is the options they are talking about today. Lets hope its settled soon! Yukon Posted April 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Tugs are used in the Alaska ports when wind makes manouevering problems possible for the ships. In Skagway (a very windy place), they're used a lot, and two are always standing by. Murray ExploreNorth http://www.explorenorth.com
