vie lee Posted January 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2009 We would like to go on an Alaska Cruise this summer and would like take 2-3 days driving to and from Vancover/Seattle area. Haven't decided on which port to sail from but would like to travel with our dog Harley, and would like to kennel him just for the time we are on the ship - 7 days. Anyone that lives in that area and knows of a good kennel that information would really help us out. Vie Lee
seattle_transplant Posted January 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2009 We are very happy with the Downtown Dog Lounge in Seattle (http://www.downtowndoglounge.com), but I know that they require an initial screening before accepting a dog for boarding. You would need to contact them about the initial evaluation and timing needed before a 7 day stay. I haven't used any of the kennel location below, but they will all require a similar 1 time screening. Here are links to some other Seattle area boarding locations - http://www.barkinglounge.com/ - http://www.metrodogseattle.com/ - http://www.central-bark.com/index.html

We generally try to find friends or house-sitters, but on occasion we've left our dog at the Pets Hotel inside the Petsmart store at Tukwila (Southcenter shopping center.) We've been quite pleased with them - it's clean, has a staffed play area, and is extremely convenient for the airport. Mr. Dog has not complained once. http://petshotel.petsmart.com/
vie lee Posted January 13, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Seatle Transplant & Gardyloo - Thanks to both of you for the information - I am going to contact everyone you recommended. Harley is a male shih Tzu and to us just about perfect but one time we left him for two week (a Hawaii Cruise) and it was almost a doggie divorce........;) How I wish we knew someone to stay at the house but we are new to Cedar City, moved here from Vegas and really don't know anyone that we would trust with full access to our house. TravlGrl Posted January 14, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2009 I have two recommendations for you: Edmonds Pet Sitting -- edmondspetsittingservice@gmail.com They are north of Seattle and run a pet sitting business in their home. We are frequent travelers and leave our two babies (both beagle mixes) with Michelle and Oliver who run the business. They treat the doggies like they are their own. In fact, we are dropping them off again this weekend before heading down to Portland. Seattle Canine Club -- http://www.seattlecanineclub.net/ This is where we took our babies before we found out about Edmonds Pet Sitting, and use it as our back-up if Michelle and Oliver are ever unavailable. They are located south of downtown, and very convenient to the cruise terminals. They also require an interview. We have deep respect for this kennel as they took care of one of my older doggies who passed away just as we had returned from vacation. They lovingly comforted him as he took his last breaths just about 30 minutes before we arrived to pick him up. He lived a long and happy 15 years. Ok, enough of that topic. PatchesPal Posted January 16, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2009 http://www.adorablepetlodge.com/ This is very close to the airport (5 min. drive) and they are absolutely the best staff! They care about your dog and have very reasonable pricing. We've taken our dogs there for years! Highly recommended!
vie lee Posted January 17, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted January 17, 2009 We have booked our Cruise - Serenade Of The Sea our of Vancouver on May 16th and Harley will be staying at the Petsmart Doggie Hotel in a suite either in Tukwila or Issaquah. We have to figure out which is the easiest to drop him off at on our way to Vancouver. We know our way around Issaquah as we had really good friends that lived there for 20 years, but moved to Tucson, AZ 2 years ago. Thank you all again very much for all the good information. Its so great to have a site like this. Vie Lee
