I can't help but when in April are you going? We are going on the 4th-11th and a TA going with us just came back from a tour on the orchestra. If you stop by our roll call (even if you are on a different cruise) She should know. Her name is Agentgirl and is a wealth of info

We are booked for an April cruise with our teen son and daughter. We are booked in cabin 12135. Can anyone tell me what the layout is for this cabin? I'm not sure it is big enough.

Cabin 12135 is a Superior Balcony Cabin. It should have one bed that will drop from the ceiling and the sofa will turn into a sofa bed. The size of the cabin is equal to a balcony cabin on Holland America, Carnival or Royal Caribbean if you have sailed any of those. A little tight for 4 grown people? Possibly. But do-able, for sure- for the amount of time spent in the cabin. Plus it is a balcony! Someplace for the guys to hang out while the girls get dressed and vice-versa! I have had families of 4 (and DO have families of 4) booked into inside cabins which are much smaller and they have been fine. My advice- don't worry! You will be fine and you will have a GREAT time. This is an absolutely beautiful ship.

Janan & Agentgirl,

Thanks so much for your help. We will be on the April 18th cruise. We have been on Royal Caribbean three times and we always had junior suites or owners suite (Empress), so I guess we are a little spoiled. Last year we had two balcony cabins on the Caribbean Princess because of all the clothes my wife and daughter packed. This year I have layed down the law...one suitcase per person! I'm sure we will be fine. As you said, for the small amount of time we are in the cabin we will survive. I usually head to the lounge for a martini or two while the ladies are dressing. Cheers.:)

Hello agentgirl,

Hope you can help me also. I am booked in Cat 9 balcony #9214, with another adult and two girls 10 & 9. It's this room or an OSide Cat 5 #8105. Just not sure if the extra $$$ is worth the balcony. I have cruised other times and have always had an Inside cabin and it was especially great for sleeping. Please let me know if you can help. Tx Li

Hi there!

I toured the Orchestra a few weeks ago. By looking at the brochure it appears that you will have a unk that will drop from the ceiling and the sofa will pull out to a bed. The superior balcony cabins- which is what you have- are comparable to the balcony cabins on Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Carnivals larger ships. We have sailed with families of 4 in this size cabin and they have done fine. Especially having the balcony, the guys can sit out there while the girls are getting ready and vice versa. You'll be fine!:D

I love a balcony....but if you aren't going to be in your room a lot, go for the oceanview and use the extra $$$$ for excursions or souveniers. It is a personal choice.....and as I said, I always get a balcony- but lots of people like inside and oceanview for the value...........

If you're cruising in the Caribbean there's nothing like a balcony. I love sitting out there in the morning with my coffee and late day with a cocktail, relaxing and watching the beautiful blue sea. Also, when you arriving and departing from the ports it's just magical. I say GO FOR IT!!

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking the same thing too. Is the Ocean view room larger than the inside? It is very confusing reading the brochure, not getting a definite answer. Tx again Li

I'd say the oceanview is a bit larger than an inside.

I was on the Jan. 10 sailing & we had 5 cabins, cat 6, 7, & 8 are std veranda 161 sq ft w/ 38 ft bal, superior is 9,10 & 11 @ 191 ft w/ 42 ft bal. I was cat 10 & enjoyed extra space, 2 twin 0r king w/ a sofa bed that opens. Does not drop from ceiling, I don`t know where that came from. With 4 people you NEED extra space. For people in cat 9, it is slighlty smaller & in rear of ship which does vibrate due to engines below.

Does the 191 sq ft include the balcony? We're in Cat 9 Aft balcony because we've always heard the Aft balcony's were the best. It sure doesn't seem to be the case on the Orchestra. Are the balcony's larger in the back of the ship?

Some cabins do have bunks that drop from the ceiling- saw this on my recent tour of the ship as well as the brochures indicate the same. Some quads have the bunk and the pull out sofa. Not all cabins have drop down bunks- many do.

When the ship is coming and going from the ports, you will feel the vibration from the thrusters as the ship is trying to position itself. It really isn't that big of a deal. At least for us is was not a big deal. I suppose if you are sleeping and the thrusters come on it may bounce you out of bed. We were always up and on the balcony to watch the ship come in and out of every port so they never bothered us.

We had an aft cabin on the Caribbean Princess and sailed the Atlantic NYC to Bermuda with 12 - 15 ft seas the entire day and a half that it took us to get there. We felt the rocking and swaying while at sea but it was mostly at night while we were laying in bed. During the day we were too busy to notice it. :)

We loved the aft location. The hallways are very quiet (less foot traffic) and also very private.

Baby,

Seems like we have more in common than a love of the casino. My wife and I book a balcony for the same reasons. The view coming into port is a great way to wake up, and a drink by moonlight as the ocean goes by is phenomenal. This will be our first cruise with our 13 month old son so a balcony was a must. We can sit on the balcony and enjoy a few cocktails after he goes to bed. I suggested we just take the baby monitor and go to the casino, but was quickly vetoed. We were hoping hs first steps might be in the caribbean, but he walked this weekend. How awesome!!

We are trying an aft balcony also, cat 6 room 8195. I guess it will be the same size as a normal balcony based on earlier comments. If it's bigger great, if not that's fine too. Don't expect it to be.

We'll be right above you on Deck 9 and I'm sure my kids will enjoy watching your baby while you're in the casino! I bet you don't think a 10 year old babysitter is too young? Your wife, however, may not agree.

Your cabin number is a Category 9 Superior Balcony not category 6. :)

Well that is good to hear. I am confused though. On our travel confirmation it says cabin #8195 cat 06. Does that mean we got a good deal and paid a cat 6 rate or is there a mistake?

Thanks

Josh

I just double checked my booking confirmation since we our in the cabin next door to yours (different sailing) and it says Category 9. I also just looked in the MSC brochure that I have and it also says Category 9.

When you get back please post about your cabin. I will be anxious to know how the aft cabins are on the Orchestra. :)

We will also be in an aft cabin, # 8218 category 9. We will have 4 of us in the room, so I'm hoping it won't feel too crowded. I was counting on the aft balconies being larger than the port or starboard balconies, but this review suggests that the aft balconies are actually smaller !

Has anyone stayed in or seen the aft balconies on the Arpa deck ?
