paul1722 Posted November 24, 2004 #26 Share Posted November 24, 2004 Brian: I live right near Vincent's on St Charles Ave. It is great ! Bravo on St Charles is excellent also and closer to downtown, but the ride to Vincents on the streetcar is a nice way to see the uptown section of town. judyjbest Posted November 24, 2004 Author #27 Share Posted November 24, 2004 So, now that Brian's settled, can one of you locals advise me of one of these nice places that we'll be able to visit easily on a Sunday despite the parade from our hotel, Holiday Inn West Bank. We'd rather not have Italian, but some great Cajun local flavor!
jgmpuma Posted November 24, 2004 #28 Share Posted November 24, 2004 I think the Holiday Inn has a shuttle that will take you to the Algiers ferry, which will put you at the foot of Canal Street. That would give you a lot of options. You should check on this and make sure. I wouldn't try to drive across the River on the evening of Bacchus. If that doesn't work, we will try to find you a good place close to your hotel. Not much Cajun-type food there but some very good Asian places close by. jlb49 Posted November 24, 2004 #29 Share Posted November 24, 2004 One of our favorites is Brennan's Redfish Grill on Bourbon. We have always had great food and service. http://www.redfishgrill.com/
judyjbest Posted November 24, 2004 Author #30 Share Posted November 24, 2004 Thanks, JB: That looks perfect! I've emailed them to see if we can get from our hotel to their restaurant while the Bacchus Parade is going on. If so, we're great! Judy
paul1722 Posted November 24, 2004 #31 Share Posted November 24, 2004 Also the Bourbon House is very good http://www.bourbonhouse.com/beta/index.php
zydecocruiser Posted November 27, 2004 #32 Share Posted November 27, 2004 You could even bounce around from Red Fish Grill to Bourbon House to Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse. Redfish is one of Ralph's restaurants and the other two are Dickie Brennan's. Both of the well known Brennan family (everything from Commander's Palace to Brennan's' restaurant, but after a family feud, they sometimes don't all acknowledge each other). Check out the menus online and then sit at the bar and order an appetizer here and there, an entree somewhere else, and perhaps make a full circle and come back for desert. After that, you may not feel like staying for Baccus - or maybe so. There are a few bars at Algiers Point where you could watch the Superbowl until you decided it was time to head back to the hotel. Is Vincent's on the corner of Fern and St Charles? If it is then it looks like if we start at St Peters and walk up St Joseph to St Charles we could catch the streetcar somewhere along St Charles (hopefully not too far). Does that sound like a safe and sane plan? Thanks for all the help and to Judy for sharing the thread.......
paul1722 Posted November 28, 2004 #34 Share Posted November 28, 2004 Yes Vincents is at Fern & St Charles... You can catch the streetcar at at St Charles and St Joseph or Julia.. Ask the Driver to tell you when you get to Fern or ask a local on the Streetcar. Ask after you see Tulane & Loyola Universities on the right. You have about a 1/2 mile to go. Remember comming back you will be on Carondelet and not St Charles (1 block further away from river) so don't get confused. You know to get off after you make the turn at Lee's Circle. Very Safe & sane to do this. You will be in the the Warehouse district first and then in the Uptown university area, which is the best area of town Walk up Julia to catch the streetcar. Lots of nice art galleries. It is about 6 blocks to St Charles. Glad to help.
