We are planning to cruise on the Amsterdam leaving Rio de Janeiro on March 17, 2009. We will fly into Rio in time to spend two nights in Rio. The cruise begins there and ends in Santiago. This is a 16 night cruise. I would appreciate any info as to hotels in Rio, how to spend that time, and about the cruise in general. We have traveled a bit and like sight seeing on our own or on a local tour. We have cruised Holland previously as well as Carnival. Pleased with both.

We will be 1 week behind you leaving March 29 from Buenos Aires on NCL Sun. I have found SA threads on tours to be very helpful. There are many... investigate them. In addition, our Roll Call http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=885752 has utilized these posts to initiate our own private tours. Please read them and investigate whether they suit your purpose. What I know, is that whatever private tour you arrange, it will be at least half the price of the cruise line's tour... whatever the line.
