Port on Day before Disembarkation yea or nay?

Does anyone else have strong feelings about having a port day on the day before you disembark? My DW and I had a cruise like that where our last port of call was like St. Thomas and the next morning was disembarkation. We found it to be more of a hassle than when the last full day is a sea day. Seemed like it was just more of a rush to get packed etc. after getting back from being onshore and then to dinner and then the last minute packing so you aren't wearing the same clothes the next day etc. The last full day is depressing enough without the extra rush of having been in port all day and then finishing the packing etc.

I've never had a cruise with a port on the last day. that I can remember. But I can tell you that I probably wouldn't get off the ship if I did. The last day is for sleeping in, have a late breakfast, do a couple of hit & runs throught the casino, lay in the sun and start packing around 3:00 or so that afternoon.

I've experienced both and definitely prefer my last day to be a sea day for the reasons mentioned above. However, not to worry. According to one poster on these boards, RCI is eliminating ports of call and substituting sea days so your concerns may be over.;):D

I have been on a couple cruises where the last day was a port day. I definitely prefer a sea day on the last day. I always liked the Western itineraries because they usually had a sea day the first day and the last day. That's ideal to me.

You must be sailing from San Juan after visiting St Thomas. Will say we have experienced both situations and like others prefer our last day to be a sea day for the reasons listed above!!! Packing 'after' a port day is NOT the ideal.......

Yeah I think it was the southern out of San Juan on Adventure that I did that had the port day on the last day. What brought this up was I was looking at Oasis sailings for 2010 and they had a port day on the last day which just stinks.

We were on a New England cruise from NY, and the last day was in port at Newport RI. It was pouring rain and not very conducive for taking the tender ashore, so we made a "sea day" out of it by not getting off the ship, which was a relaxing way to end the cruise. It takes me almost as much time to pack at the end of the cruise as it does beforehand, so I like having a sea day at the end.

Definately a sea day. I sleep in, eat a huge b-fast at WJ, then get almost everything packed. Then DH and I go out and party like it was the first day!! I get really bad PCD the last day so I have found that if we act like its the first (i.e. drink alot) then I dont get all weepy. I do pay for it the next day traveling home, but thats what Advil is for!!

Personally, sea days are the best! The more the better.

I like to have at least one in the beginning and one at the end. The only exception is when we've hit Cococay the first day out. That's a totally relaxing day where you can just hang on the beach or wander aimlessly instead of feeling obligated to check out the port you're in.

I've had both but prefer the last day to be a sea day or a port I'm not fond of (like Nassau) so I can turn it into a sea day. In fact I probably liked the Nassau day more so I had one last day on the ship with very few people onboard plus could take advantage of spa specials.

It doesn't take us long to pack so I could go either way. I've done both and found they both have advantages.

On our first cruise the sea days were at the beginning and middle of the cruise. It was nice having two full days in a row to explore the ship and made for a very relaxing start to the vacation.

I prefer the first and last full day to be a day at sea.
