Penthouse Suite...few questions

Hi All...a few questions

will be on the Pearl...in an AE

Do they have fairly new releases on dvd or a movie channel to buy/rent a movie ..if so how much are movies running?

Any fresh flowers in the suites?

If your not really sure which restaurants or shows you want to do,can you choose them last minute and still get in if you go through the concierge, or do your reservations still need to be 24 hr in advance? do you need reservations to the theater shows? if you do not need reservations can you make them to insure you see the show?

Is their a smoothy/juice bar? if not will i be able to get one from

somewhere?

I had more questions but they have escaped me  figures

any other advice for me would be great,,,,first time cruising and im getting the jitters

thank you:)

This is from NCL suites and Villas website for the Pearl Penthouse suite:

  • Butler service
  • Concierge service
  • Sparkling wine, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and bottled water
  • Invitation to VIP cocktail party*
  • 24-hour room service with special suite menu*
  • Full in-room breakfast menu
  • Hors d’oeuvres delivered twice during cruise
  • Fine linens, duvet and
    feather pillows
  • Plush bath robes and towels, luxurious bath amenities
  • Fresh flower arrangement and fruit basket
  • Priority boarding of tenders to shore
  • Priority disembarkation

The DVDs are limited but usually current. There is no pay TV/pay per view movies.

As for restaurants, shows and DVD's, please give the Concierge a list the first day of your cruise when and where you would like to be or things you would like to do. If you wait til the last minute you might not get what you want when you want it. He has many other suites to deal with and he/she isnt a miracle worker...although they do a fabulous job in general.

Other posters are dead-on regarding the DVD's.

As for last minute reservations, even the concierge cannot work some miracles. One of the most popular restaurants is Teppanyaki with limited seating for 32 pax - there are set times that you request. Now, if Teppanyaki is completely booked for the time you wanted, your concierge will then check other seatings for availability.

If a restaurant is full, it's full..

I suggest if there are specialty restaurants that you really, really want to eat at, give your concierge a list on day one and he/she will make reservations for you for the week. It's easy to cancel a reservation if you decide not to go..

I do remember seeing some new releases when we were on the Pearl in Oct.

Any fresh flowers in the suites?

Yes.. they are beautiful and usually are varieties of flowers that last for the whole week.

I'm not sure about the shows, but for all of the restaurants with the exception of Cagneys and Teppanyaki, anyone can probably find somewhere to eat without a reservation. We found that true several times on the Pearl last October and on the Star last May. Specialty dining has gone way down in popularity. I would say this is true except maybe the first night and last night of the cruise.

Is their a smoothy/juice bar? if not will i be able to get one from

I believe all of the main bars have a smoothy menue.

Be careful of those smoothies you get from the genereal bars.. LOL.. Some of them are not alcohol free. Trust me I know.. Doug thought he was going to have to carry me from the Casino back to our suite one night.

Teppanyaki (on the Star) seated 12 people at intervals of 1 1/2 hours every night, I think beginning at 6:00 (but it could have been 5:00). The PP is absolutely correct that once it is booked (and if no one cancels), the concierge can't help you.

Teppanyaki on the newer ships must be bigger because we had more than 12 people when we were eating in there.....

The Jewel, Pearl and Gem all seat 32 (there is room for a couple of extra seats if need be). I believe the Jade seats 10 or 12 and the Dawn seats 16.

Am I safe to assume that Teppanyaki is similar to a Benihanahs?

We enjoy Benis and will be going there the night b4 the cruise, so if its similar i can live without it, Id rather try cagneys and a few others

thanks for all your posts:)

Yes Teppanyaki is Japanese Hibachi and is very similar to Benihanahs or other Hibachi restaurants. That being said I must say the food there was quite good on both the Dawn and the Gem.

Don't forget - since you are in a suite you can order to be served in your suite from either the main dining room or from a surcharge one (still have to pay the surcharge) but very nice. Imagine having chocolate fondue in your room.

Also, I like to pack and take a small bullet blender. Very convenient. I ordered a bottle of vodka in advance.

This will be the fourth cruise I've brought my magic bullet blender on - wouldn't think of going without it now. We order a bar set up and I bring powdered mixers for the margaritas and sours. I pack the mixer pouches in a plastic pitcher so I can make multiples to bring on the balcony. At breakfast I may order some extra cranberry juice and/or sliced fruit to add. Couple that all with the colorful plastic straws I bring and we're all set. Great for sailaways from the ports.

I would just like to add that this is with the exception of the Teppenyaki. :D

Can you imagine them coming into your room with a grill and knives.

Re: Pearl AE and shows. When you go to the shows, there is a special section you sit in which is in the balcony ( left side ...as you are looking at the stage ) You just show your card the first time and then for further shows, we just walked to that area and always there were several available seats! We would arrive 5 min at most before the shows began. The flowers in the suite were beautiful and lasted the entire week. We never used the concierge as we decided maybe a few hrs before re: where we wanted to eat and we always got in to whatever restaurant. Or sometimes I would call myself and just make the reservations. We did tip the concierge $ 20.00 because he did lead us off the ship on disembarkation day but other than that we never saw him or used him. He did introduce himself the first day but we were already in our suite and noone ever really escorted us to the suite or explained anything. You will love the AE suite on the Pearl!! We did use the butler 3 times for our in cabin breakfast and tipped him $ 80.00 which I think was sufficient.

LOL!! No, but you can order it pre-cooked!

We were told on the Sun, Star and Pearl that you could order from all the specialty restaurants except Teppanyaki. I do have to say that on the Sun they did a great job of having all the menu's from all the specialty restaurants in our suite. On the Star and the Pearl they did not. I don't know if that was because on the Sun we were in an AC and on the Star and the Pearl we were only AE.

The best part is the social aspect. On our last cruise, just my wife & I, we ate there twice and had a fantastic time meeting the wonderful people at the tables that we were seated with.

Actually, one of our most memorable vacation events ever was Teppenyaki on the Jewel. The two of us were seated with a group from Brazil. Only one person in the group spoke just a little English so he translated (he said he learned because his daughter played soccer at NC), but somehow we still communicated. At the table next to us was a group from Argentina. We did a lot of toasts to USA, Argentina, & Brasilia! You easily forget many "normal" meals, but things like that are very memorable that you never forget.
