Hi. we understood from this board and from our ta that we would receive our fuel surcharge refund while on board, we are currently on board rhapsody of the seals aust/nz. i have enquired at the purser desk & spoken to the mgr. they said that rcl in miami said that they have refunded our money to our ta , before we sailed, we contacted our ta bef we left & enquired & they said that the refund would be on board credit. to those that have sailed this month, how was your refund handled. we have not been able to get in touch with our ta since we are on board. there are over 100 that booked thru this part ta & everyone is being told the same, but a bit different story. as faras we can tell no one has been give the refund from rcl , unless you booked directly with them. any suggestions? thank you

If you had paid in full when the decision was made (early December) you receive OBC. If you had not paid in full the fuel surcharge would have been taken off the amount owing.

When did you make the final payment? That will determine what should have happened.

Good luck.

This is not true in my case. We are sailing AOS on 2/15/09 and final payment was made 11/18/08. However, my TA received our fuel surcharge refund from RCI, and I have it back in my pocket.

We are on Rhapsody beginning Feb. 10th and our cruise was paid in full a couple of months ago. When I inquired about the fuel surcharge refund with my TA, she called RCCL and within 2 weeks it was credited back to the credit card we had charged our cruise on. Do you have anything in writing from your TA saying it will be an OBC? If you don't get it sorted out onboard, once you get home, it will be useless to call RCCL - so push the issue at the front desk and try to get the OBC now.

By the way - how's the weather - is it cold in NZ?

Smooth sailing! Cindie

Have you used this TA before?

This is the 1st time that we have used this TA-but that should not matter, no one that has used this TA has received their onboard fuel surcharge credit. Yes we paid for our cruise in full, before the decision by RCL to eliminate the fuel surcharge. I need some kind of proof that RCL was to of credit this as an onboard credit.

Thanks

Perhaps you should try to contact the TA(internet on ship, cell phone in port) and relay what RCI is telling you--"fuel surcharge was refunded to the TA" see what his/her response is. Perhaps, the TA did receive the refund. As you can see from other posts besides mine, fuel surcharges have been refunded after final payment has been made and forwarded to TA. My TA received our refund about a month ago.

We got our FS as OBC. I would say that your TA has your FS right now.

The question if you have used this TA before is a valid one because that could establish credibility or lack thereof.

all is ok now, we got a call from the pursers desk and just checked, they have refunded the fuel surcharge to our on board account.

hmmm maybe rci monitors this board

Hi,

I'm just curious to find out the amount of OBC that you received for your fuel surcharge, as we are going on the Rhapsody on 13th march 2009, which we made final payment for in July 2008, and if need be, will talk to our TA about it.

These boards have been very useful to a pair of novices like DH and I and it seems like forever that we have been waiting for it.

Cheers

Linda and Colin

$9/pp per day, our total for 2/15/09 AOS $63/pp.

Val S -- Glad to hear everything worked out with your refund. Enjoy your cruise!

We were on the Rhapsody from the 6th Jan to the 27th. Jan and have still not received our fuel surcharge. There were over 200 people who did not receive the repayment on our cruise.

We were constantly lied to by the purser staff on board and our e-mails have been ignored since we returned.

Goodbye RCI. You have lost one good customer.

  • 2 weeks later...

Steve & Veronica

As far as I can tell, most of the guests were entitled to a refund of the fuel surcharge on our Jan 27 sailing. 200 from the TA that we used alone. I spent a LOT of time speaking with the purser desk, im sure the same as yourself, i was given different answers daily, I spoke with the mgr a few times. He was no help, then I posted this message that pm we recd a message saying that we would receive the refund as an obc, which we finally did. I spent hours of my vacation dealing with this, because of my insistance with proof, I feel that us and others with my TA & other guests recd their credit back. I cannot believe how many people did not know that they were entitled to a refund! I had a few people seak me out to thank me. We do feel that we were not told the truth by the mgr or his staff onboard. In my opinion he is accountable for profits, think of it, no one was in the casino , hardly anyone was getting pics taken, bars were not full, shops were empty, etc etc. All in all, I would not be surprised if RCI cancelled AUST/NZ cruises. We did have a great time & loved the ports and especially the tours that we booked privately in NZ, that were found thru cruisecritic. OH we must of told more than 24 cruisers about cruisecritic.com

We made final payment in October 08, sailed in Jan 09, while on board no credit received, they returned the credit to the TA, called TA upon return and after a lot of emails back and forth - they said I should see it in my next 1-2 billing cycles on my credit card... all that for $60 bucks.

We paid $10 fuel surcharge per day so 14 day cruise x 2 $280.00 in total, I would STRONGLY suggest that you check with your TA & find out NOW about the refund & get it in Writing , ie if you are to be credited-find out where the credit will be applied to-if your cc then make sure that it happens

This info is on the UK RCCI site:

Fuel Supplement Information

December 18, 2008, Update

Further to our communication dated the 5th December 2008 regarding the suspension of the fuel supplement for all Royal Caribbean International sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009; please be advised of the following important information:

Please note that ALL guests with existing bookings for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009, will now have the supplement automatically refunded to them in the form of an onboard credit during their sailing. Please be aware that this applies to both paid and unpaid bookings, the original holiday price therefore remains unchanged.

Please note that this decision has been made to facilitate a smoother reimbursement process for both our guests and trade partners.

I know there's been concern on another thread about the exchange rate that will be applied to this OBC. I don't sail til September so have a long wait to find out!
