lvcruises Posted February 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2009 I see the Upsell desk has been calling people and offering upsells. I was just wondering if anyone has tried to call them lately and gotten through. I talke to a PCC at NCL about 3 weeks ago and they said they weren't taking calls and if you did call they would put you on the do not call list. So... just wondering what was happening lately.

cmscogins Posted February 3, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 3, 2009 We called customer service and they said the call list is generated via computer and then a small group calls out. She said they don't accept incoming calls.
Arwenmark Posted February 3, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 3, 2009 with out sounding silly can someone please explain to me what the upsell is? Thanks an upsell is when the cruiseline calls you and offers you a higher category cabin than you booked at a reduced rate. they sometimes make one offer and if someone turns them down they may call again with a better offer, or they may not. There is no way of knowing who they will call or if they will call. Some people have in the past tried calling them to the point they stopped accepting calls. This is not the same as you calling the cruiseline to pay for an upgrade, where you still pay the going rate at the time for the category you are trying to upgrade to. *Wink* Posted February 3, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 3, 2009 with out sounding silly can someone please explain to me what the upsell is? Thanks Sometimes, for whatever reason, NCL upsell department calls random people to offer a higher category cabin at a discounted rate. You have about 30 minutes to decide, and then they may call someone else. It's totally random who they call and it doesn't matter if you're a first time cruiser or not. They can also call and offer a higher category at no cost to you. Those are probably the funnest calls of all!
mbisson Posted February 3, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I am also in a guaranteed AG for March. I would like to know more about "upsell". Thanks with out sounding silly can someone please explain to me what the upsell is? Thanks Basically, an upsell is an offer from NCL to a cruiser for a PAID upgrade to a higher cabin category (such as from a balcony cabin to a mini or full suite). It's done at a much better price than you could pay if you decided to pay full to move up. I've had 3 upsell calls from NCL of which I accepted 2. Some were when I booked direct another when booked thru a TA so where you book doesn't seem to have much (if any) impact on your chances of getting the call. There has been a lot of discussion as to if a person can call them directly or not. EDIT-it appears 4 of us were typing at the same time ;)

They started at $550.00 per person and we ended up at $300.00 per person. 3dblouder BTW They where not happy I called.
Silverspoon Posted February 3, 2009 #10 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I had my TA call in December for our March cruise. They gave us an awesome upsell! 1-A3 + 1-AF, upsold to 1-A1. Maybe they'll only talk to TA's? Also, I was told it's called the reaccommodation desk?
ImADaneFan Posted February 3, 2009 #11 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I also called last week and we were able to come to an agreement on an upsell from a BA and AF to the GV.:D We had friends on this cruise also and we combined both reservations into the GV. Plus we added another couple that were originally not cruising to make it work.

Arwenmark Posted February 3, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 3, 2009 There has been much discussion on these boards on this subject and there is some question that the Upsell desk and the Reaccomodation desk are two different departments.
jomc68 Posted February 4, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 4, 2009 I was called by an upsell fairy today. I have never called them except several months ago I asked to be moved from the Handicapped accessible balcony cabin to a regular balcony cabin, as we were inadvertantly put in the HC cabin and it bothered me that we might be taking a cabin someone else might really need. This is the only contact I had with NCL personally. I booked a BB cabin deck 10 originally & was very happy with that purchase. BUT..... when the nice lady called and offer to put us in 12508 for just a little more, we sure didn't turn that down. She then turned around and resold our balcony to my sis & her hubby who had booked and inside. They got a screamin good deal. The upsell fairly does indeed exist. JRinBalt Posted February 4, 2009 #17 Share Posted February 4, 2009 I received my first upsell call a couple of days ago. They offered $350 per person to go from an AF to AB and I decided to take it. Since we are so close to departure, this Saturday, I figured if I didn't take it someone else surely would. The call came from someone at the reaccommodation desk. I had to call her back with a credit card and after being on hold for a while she answered the phone and we concluded the upsell. I was surprised that I could just call back so easily, but I'm glad it all worked out and we look forward to our first suite experience on the Dawn. watchdiva Posted February 4, 2009 #18 Share Posted February 4, 2009 Great deal and a smart move! The jump from an AF to an AB is HUGE and you got it for very little $$$....... Wait until you see the masterbath in the AB - it will blow you away! Enjoy the perks that come with you suite and be prepared to be pampered beyond belief:D.. If you've got any questions about the "suite life" just post and someone will answer........the best perk is breakfast and lunch in Cagney's (try the steak and eggs for breakfast and the crab eggs benedict).... We had our first suite years ago on the Dawn (an AB in fact) and have never looked back - suites are highly addictive.
Cruisin from Utah Posted February 4, 2009 #19 Share Posted February 4, 2009 I am hoping to get a call on my upcoming Alaska Cruise in May. We are currently 85 days til sailing and both GV suites are available. I would love to upgrade our AB and AF to one of those suites. What do you think are the chances. natmarie Posted February 4, 2009 #20 Share Posted February 4, 2009 I guess you snooze you lose...or should i say you work you lose. I had a message on the home phone for an upgrade to a Penthouse cabin. This was @ 8:30 am. Called at noon and they were all sold out! Why even bother to leave a message if they know they're just going to go down the list..... BTW - does anyone know how much an upsell/grade costs? We had our first suite years ago on the Dawn (an AB in fact) and have never looked back - suites are highly addictive. We visited a friend's courtyard villa suite on the Pearl, so we're looking forward to it. Actually, my SO doesn't know about the Upsell yet. I'm thinking of not letting on until we get escorted at check-in. I got him to the MIA airport on our first cruise on the Pearl before I told him that we were going on a cruise. I'm thinking that this will be an equally good surprise. I've read all the messages regarding tipping the Butler and Concierge. I'm still not sure what to do, any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking that we would definitely be using the both of them, so I plan on tipping accordingly, but there is such a wide variety of opinions and one more would be great. I do have a few generic questions: 1. We are traveling with others, so I assume that I can ask for reservations for all of us at a speciality restaurant. 2. Do you know if cabin #11010 is under either the Stardust Lounge or its restrooms? Wondering if there is a noise issue with this cabin. We'll be enjoying ourselves, so early nights aren't on the agenda, but curious just the same. 3. Is there an early embarkation time for suites? 4. Is the tub in the masterbath a jetted tub or just regular? Not that either would make a difference, I just know that some of the ships do and others don't. Thanks so much! NCL is not allowed to speak to you if you are booked with a TA , unless your TA notes it on your reservation.
