iratherbesailing Posted February 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2009 I am looking for some ideas of useful thing that I can put in a gift basket. I want to put this in my friend's room as she sails on her first cruise. All I have come up with so far are: night light, candies, plastic wine glasses, bottle of wine, neck strap to hold room key. Looking for inexpensive, useful, fun to get things.

starlake Posted February 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2009 I was just at our local Michael's. In their $1.00 area. They had some really cute travel items, all for $1 each. They had note pads with a pen, decks of cards, journals, stickers, a small flashlight and some others. I think they would be cute for what you want. gratefulmama Posted August 6, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 6, 2009 Great idea. I always do this for out of town wedding guests for family and friend's weddings. If I have room in my suitcase, maybe I will put one together for my MIL and FIL who booked the cruise for us. I always add small bags of snacks i.e. peanuts, cookies etc., small packs of tissues, bottled h2o, pain reliever, small first aid kit would be great too. The list could go on and on. What a sweet thought! ~Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right~ Robert Hunter
pjtulsa Posted August 7, 2009 #10 Share Posted August 7, 2009 I would add an outlet extender so she has more than one plug and maybe a plug in or small air freshener... We always use those when we cruise. I also have a stash of gum, nuts & candy just in case. A few ones for room service tips and don't forget to have some sort of door sign to help her find her way back to your cabin after a few drinks... The doors all look the same to newbies... Actually the doors all look the same to all of us:D Have a great cruise, she is lucky to have such a thoughtful friend cruising with her.

OceanDreams Posted November 30, 2009 #13 Share Posted November 30, 2009 How about a small package of chocolate mints. (since most cruise lines don't leave them on the pillows anymore) OceanDreams
unatheo Posted December 16, 2009 #14 Share Posted December 16, 2009 I'm doing a birthday cooler (regulation size 12"x12"x12") for my Mom this year since we are going on the same cruise. I have included so far: highlighter, LED nightlight, and a power strip. I'll be able to add a few more items from this thread. Thanks for all the ideas! Ga-Fl Peach Posted February 10, 2010 #15 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Due to fire hazards cruise ships don't allow use regular candles, but the battery operated ones are permitted and flicker like the real ones!;) They don't even allow irons for your clothes, but my travel steamer works wonders! iratherbesailing Posted February 10, 2010 Author #16 Share Posted February 10, 2010 I see there has been a spark in this thread. I am currently organizing what started out as a few couples getting together. None of them (other than us) have cruised before. Now we are up to a group of 24 people, most of them first time cruisers. Although we are not cruising till next year, I will make up "cruise care packages" and give them out as Christmas gifts. Keep the ideas coming!

You had me scared with that bungee cord for a moment. Works good on broken suitcases as well.
