Cotton Posted February 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2009 It was a good cruise; no problems...none. Big Tex was a fun CD; hard to believe he's recently lost 95 lbs! (He must not eat ship's food.):D Usually a solo cruiser, I enjoyed this one with three other friends, two in each OV cabin. However, next will be solo again, as I didn't get to relax nearly as much as usual. Not one to complain, but I think the food has taken a slight downturn. The dining room was still good (not great this time), and I even tried the buffet a few times for b'fast/lunch. Nothing was really outstanding either place. BUT...I managed to gain three pounds! The production shows were quite good, but 'way too loud! I put that on my comment card. It was ear-splitting! HINT: Check out the liquor prices in ports. I bought some Sheridan's liqueur on the ship (not sold in the states), and I found some for $10 less for two bottles on Cozumel. I took a photo of the price, and went by the ship's liquor store when I got back on board....got a $10 refund on my S&S. I like that policy! Great to be on a cruise, and great to be home.:)

kyrisong1 Posted February 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2009 Hi Cotton!!!! Glad you had a great time, I have been looking at the Fantasy for a while too. This time I'm off to West coast Spirit, never been cruising on the west coast, I'll come back and report on the food. Hopefully it was isolated, but I've truly never cared for the buffet anyway, however the deli or pizza area is good enough for me. And the made to order omelets are great!!! Cheers, Carole

ShedQueen77 Posted February 8, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2009 We noticed the downhill turn on the food as well. We aren't "whiners" either, but the change is noticeable. Glad you had a good time!

Glad you had a good time! Hi Cotten Glad you had a good time.. About the food issue,, I was on the Holiday on 1/22, funny you mentioned this, Our cruise dirctor Tory said we had better food than the fantasy she point out that ship i do not know why.. But some of the other passengers did agree with her.. Look forward to hearing more about your trip.
Cotton Posted February 8, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted February 8, 2009 Well, thx y'all, for your nice comments.:) The change in the photos of Big Tex is remarkable! Captain Scala made an announcement that the Fantasy has just received the best overall rating (in all areas) of any Carnival ship. I've always thought the Holiday had the best food of any cruise I've been on.
gypsyrose Posted February 8, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2009 Welcome back Cotton. This is a 1st for you not to have all of your meals in the dining room. Glad you had a great time. Love that Sheridans.

Love that Sheridans. :DI know! I did have all evening meals there, but just for variety (and also because of the friends w/me), I changed around a bit this time. Isn't Sheridan's the best??? Got two large, and also two large Kahlua.
cruisetobeaches Posted February 8, 2009 #11 Share Posted February 8, 2009 We did a B2B in early January on the Fantasy. i must say, we had the BEST service of any ship we have been on. From dining room to room steward to lido deck waiters, this was the best of the best! Big Tex also has a very good singing vioce! The Mardi Gras pub crawl was pretty much non existant the first cruise, but was packed the second cruise. We had a blast! The wife and I took this B2B by ourselves. We usually cruise with other family members. Very relaxing. didn't have any concerns about others cruising with us. However, it is still a lot of fun with the others with us.............we just "survived" the January 31 cruise on the Holiday! 14 of us, eight were first time cruisers. In spite of everything that was "wrong", we still had a blast. It wasn't near as bad as some are writing about!

Does anyone know what CD will be on there then? Big Tex was leaving the ship yesterday when I was. Risa Barnes came on as CD yesterday, but I don't know how long she'll be there. I like her a lot, and was hoping to see her again. She was CD on one of my Holiday cruises.
allicat1214 Posted February 9, 2009 #20 Share Posted February 9, 2009 Cotton, thanks for your info. We're going back on the Fantasy in less than 3 weeks. I'm wondering: what shop did you find Sheridan at on Cozumel? Many thanks!
BrendaB1 Posted February 9, 2009 #21 Share Posted February 9, 2009 Welcome back Cotton. Looks like we just missed you again. We were in the Quarter this weekend. How was the smoking section on the Lido deck? Is the entire side still smoking or only half of it like Inspiration? We walked down to Riverwalk Sat afternoon & Fantast looks all shiney & new since the upgrade. :D Also got a look at The World ship. Nice.
Cotton Posted February 9, 2009 Author #22 Share Posted February 9, 2009 I guess maybe ONE DAY, we'll all meet! Y'know, when we were there, I saw another ship, and thought I saw the word "world"....but it was a sidewise glance, and I was rushing along. I guess I live in a cocoon....but What IS that ship? Fill me in, girl. Portside Lido and Sun Deck all the way back - smoking, except of course in the inside restaurant. Promenade portside Casino 21 Bar and Majestic Bar (we spent a lot of time at both) are smoking. Haven't been on Inspiration, but I guess this is what you're asking? I remember when all of Promenade was smoking; alas, gone.

We like to bring visitors by there to sample the great food and to say hi to our favorite server Sue and Miss Jerry. That other ship in port was THE WORLD. It's the one that people actually live on. http://www.residensea.com/

I'm wondering: what shop did you find Sheridan at on Cozumel? Many thanks! Hi, glad to help. It was at the Los Cinco Soles shop on Coz, at the Playa Maya Pier. Looking at my S&S total bill....I got 2 on the ship $49.90. When the guy saw my photo, he credited the $49.90, and charged $40.00!:)
Cotton Posted February 9, 2009 Author #25 Share Posted February 9, 2009 selucrey;18081335]Good morning Cotton! We were with Brenda this weekend. We had lunch at The Gumbo Shop thinking maybe you might be there. Awww man, don't tell me that! I wanted to have lunch there, but the other three wanted to stop at Middendorf's in Manchac....which is what we did - late lunch on the way home. I can't complain; their softshell crab was delish. We were also at CdM. One of the 'girls' had never had beignets. Can you believe? Maybe one day.............:D
