Safety At Night?

Recommended Posts

As I'm getting closer to the cruise, I'm now moving into the worrying stage. Is there a time on the ship (Pacific Dawn) where numbers drop on the outside decks to the point where it could be taking a risk to be out and about, or would I always find a significant number of night owls? I'm thinking in terms of if at 2 or 3 in the morning I'm having trouble sleeping and I want to go out on deck for a smoke, am I likely to find myself alone and potentially vulnerable to unsavory types?

I was never out on deck at 2 or 3 in the morning but I would think you'd be ok by the pool area. We know there's always a chance there's some idot around, just like there is anywhere you go, but the fact that there are cameras everywhere will certainly reduce that risk.

Debbie, you would be fine. there is security wandering around everywhere and that is what we did, would sneak up for smoke, either to pool deck or any of the lower ones. The casino you can smoke in as well if you dont feel like going outside. You will be surprised how many people will have the same idea as you. Fiona

I have been up on the decks in the middle of the night and I am sure you will be fine. As has already been stated, security walk around the ship at all hours and the fact that there are cameras everywhere I would not give it a second thought.

Also when we were on the Pacific Dawn last year you could no longer smoke in the Casino...but just check out where the smoking areas are in the Daily newsletter.

Have a great cruise....:)

Last October I travelled just with my 15 year old daughter so you can probably say I travelled alone.

At no time did I ever feel unsafe.

Most mornings i was up around 5 wandering around and on the back deck, even meeting up with a lovely couple who was still up from the island night the night before.

It also helped that I knew a few people from here on the cruise that I could sit with at times.

As karmac says don't be foolish and pay attention to what is going on around you as you never know what can happen.

Just as on shore, make sure you stay in well lit areas, but then thats most of the ship anyway.

At that time of the night/morning if you are wandering around on your own it may also be wise to use the stairs, rather than risk a stranger sharing a lift with you.

Hi Debbie

I travelled on the Pacific Sun in December, with two teenage girls, and there was never one moment that we didnt feel safe. I was on the decks at all times of the day and night, and early hours of the morning (being a smoker..) and there was always a couple of people around, sitting and chatting. My girls stayed up until about two am with their friends and they were very safe as security is everywhere and is well on top of who is up and wandering the ship. My cruise did have a lot of older passengers on board and they went to bed nice and early so that might have helped.

I think that is one reason that no one was too worried about their teenagers walking around as there were definitely no passengers that made you worried for your safety. I think you will be shocked at how safe the ship is and how secure you feel.

Sounds like Riviera (pool) deck on Sun Princess is ok for a smoker?

There is a smoking section on Deck 12 Riviera Port side. There is about 6 tables set up with ashtrays.

Also you can smoke on the promenade deck Port side Deck 7, there are ashtrays on the wall.

You cannot smoke anywhere inside of the ship.

Must agree with everyone else - on Pacific Sun last year I was partying hard by the pool with just a few people around. Security had no idea I was drinking diet coke rather than with a mxier and one older security man approached me to ask if I was "by myself". When I answered yes, he said he'd keep an eye on me - and did just that. If I'd been intoxicated and made a poor judgement call, I strongly believe he'd have stepped in. I remember this vividly as I was stone cold sober but thought he was fantastic. I made a point of noting his name and putting in a "you made a difference" card. Not that I am for one minute advocating not being responsible, but you are in good hands! Relax & enjoy. :)
