Amerikaner83 Posted February 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Hey all, I am cruising Carnival this April for my honeymoon...and I don't have a passport. What I DO have, however, is an "enhanced driver's license". I am a WA State resident and apparently WA is the first state to start issuing these documents. According to the WA State DOL webpage these EDLs are a substitute for passports in land/sea border crossings btwn USA, Canada, and Mexico. My problem is when I'm trying to fill out my Carnival Funpass online, it gives me three options for citizenship documentation: Passport, Birth Cert, and "Naturalization Certificate". Enhanced Drivers License is not one of the options. Before you go asking "is the EDL really valid?"...the answer is yes. But Carnival had no idea waht the heck an EDL really is! From the Feds: Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative EDL page Should i just order a new Birth Cert to avoid problems...?
wrp96 Posted February 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Yes, just order a birth certificate.
paul929207 Posted February 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2009 I think you would be wise to have a certified copy of your birth certificate. While your EDL should be sufficient, there is no guarentee the people at boarding will know about it.
Amerikaner83 Posted February 16, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Ugh. Oh well - @ least the Canadians know what they're doing re: EDL. Thanks - I'll order it tomorrow just to be safe!
