Smoking in the Star casino?

I guess I always seem to find the 10% then:(

and you know what? I am really sorry for those who do find the stupid, jerks. We have to live in the world where smokers and non smokers have rights. You know the sad thing, the inconsiderate smokers probably do not even realize it. it is like the parents who do not realize their kids are the ones that are not little angels. I know, now I have opened up the pandoras box..

I think one of the main problems with the smoking in NCL casinos is that they have changed their rules so that now the casino is the only indoor public area where smoking is allowed. So in reality, the casino has become a smoking lounge. If they would designate one bar area onboard as a smoking area I think it would cut the smoke in the casino in half.

Not taking sides, just making a suggestion.

you are right, even if they want to keep the casino bar smoking they need to designate one other lounge smoking. It would eliminate at least a few smokers..

Absolutely ,,, People stop in the casino just to have a cig.

Re opening one of the bars to smokers would be a loss to the anti smoking camp , so that wont happen.

If you were to ask NCL , who complains more , the "I hate smoke any where group" or the " why cant I smoke in the bars anymore group" . You know who would come out on top with that . Smokers have been so vilafied there afraid to allow themselve's to enjoy something that hasn't yet been baned ... Except by the PC police. Well makes no difference to me , just stay away from the Bourbon topic... ;)

( I dont smoke by the way )

It would eliminate me for a start. When I was on the Alaska cruise last year the weather simply was not good enough for me to smoke outside all of the time particularly at night. I would have loved to be able to sit in a lounge with a drink and a smoke.

When I went into the casino to smoke I didn't gamble as I didn't understand it so they got no revenue from me using it. I didn't use the bars much either so no revenue there either. In a smoking lounge I would definately have spent money on drinks for me and my husband (non-smoker) - I wonder if I am on my own in this or whether there were a substantial number of cruisers doing just what I was doing. Based on some comments in this thread I think a small smoking allowed bar/lounge area seating 50-100 people might do quite well.

I agree I think this would help out smoke in the casino.

Jean, they should have at least one other place than the casino for smoking.

I totally agree, why is it we have to always debate these issues when someone just asked a question?? This very subject is being discussed right now on Princess, I just got off the thread..

There are about 3 or 4 subjects that will never stop: tipping, smoking, babies on board and food quality.

Don't forget...smuggling booze, wine corkage charges and chair hogs, Nita!

I have so much on my mind these days that my memory gets foggy..LOL.. but if my memory is right, NCL tried have a couple of smoke free nights in the casino and it just did not work for them. It lost them a lot of revenue. I won't swear on my life it was NCL that tried that and stopped it, but that is what I remember.

Someone mentioned about is it inconsiderate if a non-smoker sits by a smoker. I will tell you how I handle this. If I am at a slot machine and no one is around me I will smoke. If I am at a slot machine and no one is around me and finally someone comes and sit by me, I will try to not smoke as much, and when I do I will hold my cig as high up (like i'm resting my hand on the top part of the slot machine) as I can and make sure my smoke blows away from whoever is near me. If I go to sit at a slot machine and it is next to non-smokers, then I simply will not smoke until they are gone. Not a perfect solution, but it is how I try to be considerate. I know it's not enough for some, but it is my part at least.

You are just fabulous Terry!! I wish all smokers were like you!

I know most try to be considerate, but some just don't care, or just don't realize how far their smoke travels. I know where ever I sit, that's where the smoke goes to...at least it seems that way!

You have a point there!

On RCI there is a bar pretty close to the casino (I believe it is the Spinnaker lounge) where smoking is allowed....so the smokers are little more spread out. Of course we have to walk through there to get to other parts of the ship, so we always walk really quickly through, and DH is an ex smoker and he walks fast too. ;)

There is usually a piano player in there and we would love to hang out there, but we just can't really take the smoke, so we go elsewhere. ;)

Plenty of room for us all!
have not smoked in 20 +years.my better half smokes.
Oh goodness. I feel your pain there. The thought of being married to a smoker is nauseating. The constant reminder. Ick. The thought of kissing a smoker is more than I could bear. I would offer this (hopefully) helpful advice for anyone caught in such a predicament. If you feel there is absolutely no way out of it and you absolutely must kiss a smoker, then I suggest you first perform the Smoker Scrub Down (SSD, for short). First thing is you need to prepare yourself properly for the SSD. Put on your elbow length rubber gloves. Then for your facial area, you should prepare like a dental hygienist would. Wear goggles and the little breathing mask. OK, now you're ready to tackle the nasty task. Fetch the toilet brush and a full can of Comet, Bon Ami, or similar abrasive cleaner. Have the smoker open wide and liberally apply the Comet or Bon Ami and then use some elbow grease to begin scrubbing. Just as with the toilet, you need to be sure and scrub well under both the upper and lower rims. The tongue is likely to be particularly troublesome. Perhaps a charcoal grill scraper or extra coarse brillo pad could be used to scour and scrub the tongue. There we go, much better. Now have the smoker gargle deeply with Pine-Sol, rinse, and repeat. Now it's time for clean up. Use a garden hose and rinse out the oral cavity thoroughly. Then, as a last step, tie one of those air fresheners like people put on their car rear view mirror to one of the smokers upper front teeth and let it dangle freely in their mouth for an hour or so. I suggest pine forest scent but any other scent will do. This should help deodorize the oral cavity. Now you are ready for the dirty deed. Swoop in quickly, give the smoker a quick peck on the cheek, and then back away quickly. Voila! Mission accomplished!

Now I know already what some of you are saying. My ears are burning. I can hear it now. Some of you are saying "OK, Mr. smart alek know it all. You think you are so smart, what about this. Let's say I perform the Smoker Scrub Down and get to the last step and find that, like many smokers, this smoker is missing both upper front teeth. So now I have no place where I can attach the air freshener. Then what do I do Mr. smarty pants? See, you're not so smart after all. "

Well, I already have an answer for that too. Look, if you get yourself into a situation where you get hooked up with some person who is both a smoker AND is missing both upper front teeth, then you have got real problems. At that point, getting the Smoker Scrub Down process to work properly should be the least of your worries. Your real problem is you need to exercise better judgment in selecting dates. So don't come whining to me that SSD does not work properly if you get yourself into that situation.

Anyway, hopefully this timely advice will help some of our fellow travelers if they are ever confronted with the need to perform this wretched task.

Yes Nina I'm kidding about this:D
"I love the smell of napalm in the morning!"

There is one and only one public place you can smoke on an NCL ship: In the casino. There are cruise lines that don't allow smoking anywhere on board at any time, indoors or out. I suggest the people who get a reaction when they even THINK about smoke should not sail on NCL, but sail on the smokeless lines. There is no cigar bar on the Jade at all--just the Casino.

Besides, if you are in the Casino and want it to be healthy, that's kinda dumb--like wanting your Big Mac, Fries and Thick Shake to be non-fattening. Next you'll want an alcohol-free Casino, and then, finally, a gambling-free Casino.....Remember in "The Odd Couple" when all the poker-night guys leave because Felix washed the cards?.....

I agree 100% I could care less if I gamble, but I do like a cigerette inside once in a while. NCL are you listening????? If we could smoke at one bar you'd have more room for the gamblers in the casino.

The casino is definitely used as a smoking lounge. It gets packed after the later show for a while, everybody watches the idiots that put their quarters into the machine with the hopes of getting a 2 dollar return on a 10 investment.......
The main problem is the venting fans, the smoke just hangs there. WIth a good system, it would be tolerable for most non smokers....

They really are idiots if you watch them put their quarters into the machines since the Stars slot machines have only accepted paper money or paper tickets for a long long time.
