£ 5.00 a pint !

Recommended Posts

Greetings fellow cruisers ...

I learned from my father this week ( who is just back from a ten day cruise on Brilliance ) that a pint of beer on-board is $ 7.40 , that equates to just over £ 5.00 a pint , which is rather excessive .

I am booked for Independence of the seas in May and am interested to know if the drinks are the same price accross the fleet or does it depend on the area they are sailing in ?

Don`t get me wrong , when I go on holiday I " splash the cash " and usually have a very heffty credit card bill at the end , but it does seem an awful amount of money to spend on a pint of beer .

Any thoughts folks ?

Cheers ...:cool::cool::cool:

I was on Freedom a few weeks ago and Boddingtons were $5.25US or 3.83 GBP

But they also add a 15% tip to your bill.

I have never taken a cruise out of the UK so the prices may be higher.

When we were in London in Sept 07 the exchange rate was 1GBP to $2.14US so our beers were nearly 9 bucks each. OUCH!

I agree with you...the prices are right up there competing with land prices at fine hotels. I guess that the marketing strategy is to get people to drink less...why I do not know? My guess is that the majority of the pax (passengers) are older and they do not drink a lot anyway...so the company wants to get the maximum profit off of the 1or 2 drink pax. I think they should offer a drink card...just like the wine package.

NorbertsNiece - you don't need to drag out your receipts. I'm sure you mentioned $7.49 a pint in your report, which was awesome by the way. I read the whole thing last night.

I've been reading recent trip reports and folks cruising in the Caribbean have mentioned $5 a pint, while folk cruising from the uk have said $7.49. That is a massive difference and its not like they would need to pay more for the drink over here - most probably get it some places in Europe.

So why the extra 50% cost? Are they saying - lets stiff the British, as they don't know any better, or is there some genuine reason why we're being charged more? Is it because we tend to use the Casino less or something?
