43jft Posted February 21, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2009 Hi Been trawling through the posts which have been helpful, but needing some specific advice about Red Sea Magic trip on Spirit - quite a long list (!) 1. Website states that you can't book your excursions until you are on board, but other posts seem to indicate you should book before departure - advice please! 2. Are there enough chairs on deck to go around - especially on day at sea, or do we have to get up at crack of dawn to bag one (!) 3. Can you take pool towels with you on excursions, we are wanting to do the snokelling day, so wondering if should pack our own 4. Are there tea/coffee making facilities in the cabin? Really need my tea first thing in the morning, so wondering if we need to pack travel kettle 5. Finally (!) what happens on the last day - seems as if we are kicked out of our cabins in the morning - what happens to luggage etc, can you actually go off and do anything & if so, are there any facilities to shower/change prior to leaving (awful to be thinking about leaving before we have even got there!) Will be so grateful for any advice/help. This is first cruise (apart from Portsmouth/Bilbao car ferry!), and feeling a little apprehensive! Yes there are enough, although it does get busy on the at sea day. However, we have never had a problem 3. yes you can you take pool towels with you on excursions. 4. No, but the lido is open 24/7 and 2 mins from your cabin so not really a problem. 5. On the last day you leave your luggage outside your cabin the night before. It is picked up at 2-3 am. If you have to vacate your cabin and your flight is not till the evening there are a number of options. We paid for a courtesy cabin for the day, I think it cost about £30. They usually have a few of these available. Also the usually designate a few spare cabins that can be used for showers etc, but everyone will be using these so you might have to wait a while to make use of one. If your flight is late, yes you can get off the ship and visit the local area so long as you are back on board for your transfer. The Spirit is a great ship, dont worry you will have a Fabulous time. davecttr Posted February 21, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2009 I think the normal procedure is to book excursions once you board the ship. Check out which ones you fancy on the Thomsons web site before you go and you will find a form to fill in when you get to your cabin. Pop it up to destination services where there is a post box if not manned. Travel kettles are not allowed for safety reasons, 750 kettles switching on at 7am would blow the wiring I suppose!. Free coffee and a range of teas are available in the buffet 24/7 and the seasoned travellers even take a small vacuum flask to keep the tea hot. Depending on the time of your flight you can even go on half day excursions on your day of departure so your holiday does not end at 8.30am. 43jft Posted February 21, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted February 21, 2009 thank you both for reassurance - and suggestions. Looks like a thermos needs to go on the packing list!
Minuette Posted February 22, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2009 It's our first time on Thomson Spirit as well! We're so used to other cruise lines where you can sort out your excursions well before you travel. My husband rang Thomson who confirmed what others have said - that you book excursions once you get on board. Thanks, davetheroad, for the thermos tip!
