Nirvana51 Posted February 22, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2009 Hi ~ I have visited but never cruised in the Caribbean or via Windstar but am looking to book the Wind Surf in this location later this year. It seems to depart from Barbados. There is some good information available regarding trips, what to wear etc but wondered what the 'mix' is with regard to passengers. Is it mainly Brits and Americans or Europeans, Central Americans etc. Also, are there any preferred cabin locations. Thank you
Ontario Traveller Posted February 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2009 We cruised on the Windsurf a few months ago, out of Barbados, and it was very enjoyable. I can't really remember what the nationality mix of passengers was. I do recall that there were no children on our voyage, and most people seemed to be in the 40-60 year age range. Food and service are excellent. There is almost no formal entertainment. The cabins are very small, but well laid out. Hope you enjoy it.
jandar0721 Posted March 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2009 Have been on all three Windstar Caribbean routes and in my experience, the pax mix is not a mix at all. 99% American.
LRHerman Posted March 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Just got back from s/b Barbados trip. Enjoyed it a lot. Majority of passengers were Americans, but I'd guess around 10-20% British and quite a few Canadians too. Never met any other Europeans or South Americans. Middle of boat is best and I believe lower decks are a bit more stable too.
travelerann Posted March 22, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2009 We just got back from a trip leaving from Barbados and boy was it rough! But we persevered and used the patch and Dramanine. No one in our group got sick but the constant movement much of the time was really something. We were really glad we were in the center of the ship on the bottom deck. It is the cheapest and the most stable when the boat is rocking. Try for there. We were on the ship several years ago in the Aegean and it was calm as could be so this was a complete surprise. Everyone was really friendly. Most seemed to be US citizens but there were also some Canadians and Brits we talked with. I would say 40-60 is a good range although there were several older people with family. No children and I think we had the youngest in our family group who celebrated his 25th birthday. The food and service was outstanding so just go. We lived thru to see another day and have great memories.
jarett Posted March 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 27, 2009 How much are drinks? Or are they included??????
inaflash Posted March 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 27, 2009 Drinks are not included though they have some new plans that can help 'build' it into the price of the trip on a pre paid basis.. but i would not say windstar is in the business of making an apparent effort to milk you at every turn. In fact, there are very few things if any that windstar 'shoves' in your face as a marketing effort. No announcements telling you bingo. No coffee shops (at least on the smaller ships). No surcharge restaurants. The only extras, for the most part, are drinks, excursions, medical, and casino! Scuba if they still offer it is additional. Really though, you don't feel like a pawn like on the bigger ships.. Most people on windstar enjoy feeling in charge of their experience instead of being 'played' for their dollars as many of the bigger lines tend to do.. selling it as an experience and entertainment. Drinks are also reasonably priced.. 4-7 dollars i'd say for most everything.
