One Day Sale VS Past Guest & Military Rate

Not that i have much experience booking w/Carnival;), just curious; wondering if more experienced peep could answer

 

Surprised to find that this week's Wednesday's One Day Sale (which was available to book yesterday:confused:) produced the following for me:

 

1) better rate than PG or Military

 

2) allowed me to book Cat 8G (aft extended balcony:Dwhich i luved on the Legend)...said category wasn't included in either Past Guest or Military rates...is this typical?
