OBC - Use it or lose it

Is this a new policy? I received a credit on my credit card for unused OBC on my last two cruises.

It is fairly new. It does not apply to all OBC, but to OBC awarded by the cruise line as part of a sale or "perk." The fuel surcharge OBC will be refunded if not used as is OBC you or a loved one purchases in advance.

Stock OBC is not refundable along with booking OBC. Visa coupon OBC's are refundable. My last cruise they even sent a flyer out to everyone with an OBC stating that the OBC you received is not refundable. At least they gave people fair warning ahead of time.

us also - what's left over OBC? never have had it, never will. We had $450 in OBC on our last 7 night cruise and still paid almost $600 at the end. So no worry about having leftover OBC to lose:D:D

LOL know what you mean....it's a real chore to spend money on a cruise:p But I tough it out;)

they will send you a note to your cabin if you have any non-refundable OBC. I got the notes twice on Navigator in January. The note says the non-refundable has to be used by 10 pm the night before disembarking the ship. Non-refundable includes OBC from Nextcruise, WOW sale events, booking while on board...etc. Fuel surcharge refunds are not included in this. Neither is OBC purchased as a gift from your TA, friend, or yourself.

Check your onboard account before the last day if you have OBC. Any leftover balance will go poof!

Yes, this is new and caused by the lines of people at the pursor's desk the last night of the cruise (or night before) taking all their OBC in cash as if RCCl were a bank. I believe it was also the underlying cause for stopping combining discount offers no matter how much some say it was economy. When someone got the bright idea of posting a suggestion of using credit cards for expenses then taking the OBC as cash to pay against your credit card to increase points the lines became unbelievable. (First they posted how to take your OBC as cash in the casino and leaved but RCClL got wise to that pretty quickly also.)

It amazes me that people are stupid enough to brag about those things here. Does it make them feel important?

I know this is probably a dumb question but how do you get OBC?? Incentives from TA's??? I only remembering having a balance to pay at the end of the cruise.

Last cruise we got $250 obc from our TA, $200 obc from RCI for booking onboard our last cruise, and when we boarded there was a letter in our cabin for another $50 obc from RCI for no reason, except maybe because it was our first cruise as platinum. This was last year so we got our obc in addition to our Platinum discount. All this really didn't matter, we spent all that on spa treatments and our final bill was $2900.

I know, just had a change in plans for next weekend - we were supposed to go up to SAvannah and meet my best friend, but she had to cancel, so we booked the Monarch for next weekend again. Living here is really hard!

If you purchase something, how is it determined whether it is taken out of Fuel Surcharge or your other OBC? We will have 3 kinds of OBC.

That's one of the changes I've read about. RCI will use up "cash" type OBC's first. Cash OBC's are from TA's, fuel surcharge credit, Visa points, etc. Essentially anything that came to RCI as cash. After the cash OBC's are used, then they will use non-cash OBC's, like next cruise OBC or shareholder OBC. You can get a refund of any leftover cash OBC, but not non-cash. Say for example, you had $100 Visa points OBC and $100 shareholder OBC, for a total of $200 OBC. You spend $150. You get no refund because you used $100 of your cash OBC (this is used first) and $50 of your non-cash OBC.
