cruiser123cba Posted February 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2009 Would love you hear your thoughts about these two hotels. We can't decide between the two of them. What are the pros and cons of each...location, amenities, hidden costs, etc.? Thanks for your help!:)
cccole Posted February 25, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2009 I prefer the Outrigger Waikiki because of the location and the feel of the hotel. It is located on a great spot on Waikiki, has Duke's restaurant, and a very friendly atmosphere. I have only stayed here a couple of times but have been very happy. The Hilton Hawaiian is a very large complex of buildings and restaurants. It is beautiful but I prefer the other end of Waikiki. Also, it might be possible to get entertainment book rates at the Outrigger. I know I did for an ocean front room a couple of years ago. TreasureQuest Posted February 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Everyone has a different viewpoint, but if you're looking for a great beach, you might want to consider the difference in beach size. The beach behind the Hale Koa and the HHV is wide and much less crowded at peak times. We stayed at the HHV for pre-cruise and I kept wondering where the crowds were that I had read about on Cruisecritic. The beach behind the Outrigger and the Royal Hawaiian is pretty narrow. Add that to the fact that this also where most of the hotel guests from the non-beachfront hotels are accessing the beach through that walkway between the two hotels. The congestion of people playing in the surf was another consideration that took us by surprise when we opted for the Outrigger piece of beach during our post-cruise stay.
