Sparky9 Posted February 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2009 We are traveling by bus from Washington DC area to New York City on 27 August for a Hollland American 10-day Colors of Canada and New England Cruise. Has anyone taken this bus? Also how do you get from the drop off location in NYC (I think it is Madison Square) to the cruise departure point? We are still checking this out, but I thought perhaps someone might have tried this bus already.
DonMar Posted February 25, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Taking a cab would be best - IMHO.
RHefley228 Posted February 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2009 how do you get from the drop off location in NYC (I think it is Madison Square) to the cruise departure point? I find it hard to believe the bus is dropping you off at Madison Square; do you perhaps mean Madison Square Garden? (Which is, of course, nowhere near Madison Square, but that's--well, welcome to NY) If MSG, take a cab. It's a short ride and fairly cheap. Sparky9 Posted February 25, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted February 25, 2009 You are absolutely correct. Thanks. Here is the location as printed by the bus company::o "Our stop located in midtown Manhattan is adjacent to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden in front of The Regency Inn at 215 W 34th St. between 7th and 8th Avenue. We are just 6 short blocks from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. "
signman Posted February 25, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2009 I assume you are taking Megabus or Boltbus. From the drop off at MSG just take a cab, but instead of getting dropped off right in front of the pier, have the cabbie go west to 12th Ave and then drop you off right on 12th at your pier, probably 90 at 50th St. Then just walk across the street. Faster and cheaper.
1particularharbor Posted February 26, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2009 Is this a bus that is designed for cruise passengers by the cruise lines ? Where do you board the bus in the DC area ...is there other pick-up/drop-off stops in other cities along the way to NYc? Thanks 1ph
Sparky9 Posted February 27, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted February 27, 2009 I'm afraid this is a bus that runs between DC and the Madison Square Garden/Penn Station only. We are looking for an expensive way to get from the Penn Station to the Cruise Terminal and thus far have found we can take a taxi for a rather reasonable cost. This bus stops at various Metro Stations in the DC area but does not make stops on the way to NYC. :)
Rare mking8288 Posted February 28, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 28, 2009 It's the Mega Bus (own/runned by its corporate parent, Coach Bus Lines - which does a lot of charter (casino) trips - famous for its low prices, as little as $1 one way and popular for student & tourist travel - challenging the Greyhound lines on many popular East Coast corridors. Madison Sq. Garden is upstairs at Penn Station, where Amtrak from D.C. & Boston come in & drop-off folks. This put you 6 long city blocks east and then 16 blocks south of the cruise terminal, plenty of yellow taxis in front & all around MSG/Penn Stations - ride should be $12 to $15 (fares increased). Their buses are relatively new, clean & considered reliable/dependable - and supposed to be wi-fi equipped and even with jacks for ipod/power charging on board (please check the megabus website to confirm). Our relatives used it for both one-way and round-trips between cities and are very happy with it.
