Beach w/in walking of the pier?

The southern end of Seven Mile beach is a little bit of a far walk... not impossible, but a bit tiring. There are no sidewalks for a part of that way.

A taxi is usually about US$5 to US$6 per person each way. To save a few bucks you might try the local bus.

Buses are more like overgrown minivans. The main bus depot is on Edward Street about two blocks inland from the tender docks. Cost should be about US$2.50 per person each way.

NO, do NOT try to walk to 7 Mile Beach -- take a taxi -- ask them to let you off at Comfort Suites (behind it is a public access to beach) or Royal Palm, if you want to be at south end of the beach -- the whole beach is public -- and you can walk from where I mentioned north several miles!!! And Totally safe with no peddlers to bug you like in Mexico. Another place to go is to be dropped of at Governor's HOuse -- in past there was a vacant lot next door which was used for overflow parking for Gov -- there you can walk either north or south -- the latter takes you past Westin & Ritz Carlton and a whole bunch of condos.....GORGEOUS! In the picture looking north, you see those trees? Those trees basically mark the line between public & private -- between bldgs & trees considered private......betw water & trees PUBLIC!!! Trees have great shade.

If we take a taxi to seven mile beach, is there access to restrooms, beach chairs, food? Where is the best place for these facilities?

Have the van driver drop you off at Royal Palms or SeaGrape Beach. It will cost around $5.00 p/p ea way.

Going out on a limb here, but does anyone know of a beach we can walk to? Just trying to save a buck:o

I have done it. As you exit the tender drop off area in downtown walk to your left and in about 20 minutes you will see the beginning of 7 Mile Beach. Bring water and some snacks and the ships beach towel and enjoy the free beach.

We took a taxi to the beach and on the return we remembered it being much closer than it was. Actually it wasn't that far but it was VERY HOT and in direct sun so it seemed like it took forever!!!

Just thought I would tell you that we have decided to take the bus on our next trip. It is $5 us round trip per person. Here is the details I found today. If you want to go to 7 mile beach you take the "West Bay Bus" You can even take a bus to Hell for those interested in that.

Grand Cayman Public Bus Transport, Edward St. next to the library, Georgetown, Phone: 945-5100. Licensed buses are identified by blue licence plates. Daily service starts at 6AM from the depot and the schedule is as follows from George Town to:

    • West Bay - every 15 minutes, Su-Th 6AM-11PM; F,Sa 6AM-12AM. CI$1.50 each way.

[*]The system uses color-coded logos on the front and rear of buses to identify routes:

  • Route 1 (yellow) George Town to West Bay.
  • Route 2 (lime green) George Town to West Bay.
