YVR to CANADA PLACE SKYTRAIN

Recommended Posts

Vancouver's transit authorities are hopeful to have the long awaited Canada Line leg of SkyTrain up and running right after Labour Day which will connect the airport with Canada Place and it's cruise terminal. The fare is expected to be about $3.75 (CDN) pp each way. This will prove to be a wonderful boon for cruisers.:)

I'm really excited about this - we have family we visit every year in the West End and the train will be so handy - 5 min. walk from the Yaletown - Roundhouse station. We'll take the extra savings and dine out....

Will we able to take the train from airport to our hotel, we are taking a cruise September 19 2009 but staying in Vancouver for three nights.

I would definitely keep an eye on http://translink.bc.ca/ the approx when they say it will open. Follow the signs at YVR to 'Translink Skytrain / Canada Line'. Cost is $3.75 weekdays, $2.50 weekends one way. All stations have elevators and the trains are roll on roll off.

Which hotel are you staying at ? The last two stations are the two closest to hotels, at approx Granville and W.Hastings, and Granville@Robson.

We are going to stay at Hampton Inn and Suites downtown on Robson Street.

Yes they are saying that everything is ahead of schedule and may open as early as September. But hey this is BC and there is a lot of stuff happening between then and now. I wouldn't count on it just yet.

It's still going to be a tough slog for Cruise pax with extra luggage etc. unless you got the bucks for Pan Pacific or Waterfront..

Locals and carry on stuff it will be a boon. Can't wait.

A very probing question.....are you trying to stir the pot with the locals or what???? :D

Bingo -- wonder if it mention of election, or the constant gratuitous advertising/flogging of upcoming waste $ on a 2 week party next year that gives it away ....

DAM1050 - why don't you ask Glen Clark, Joy McPhail, Mike Farnsworth, Jenny Kwan, Corky Evans etc WHY they made the original decision to bid for the Games - the present provincial government inherited the bid and the people of Vancouver also voted 68% in FAVOR of the Games - we had lots of NAYSAYERS for EXPO 86 that as soon as it became successful use it to further their political careers - anybody remember Mike Harcourt.

End of sermon and that probably has stirred the pot up some

Cheers

PD - you are absolutely right - I shouldn't be talking that way - guess I got to much exercise today or is it that Tuesday is a full moon and I am under it's spell - I was actually going to edit the comments but left it too late.

But with the Canucks on a winning streak there doesn't seem to be anything us to complain about except perhaps the surprise snow squall that hit parts of the Lower Mainland this evening and closed down the Alec Fraser bridge for a while. A friend of mine uses that bridge for his drive back from Sunday dinner in North Delta so I am sure he will tell me all about it.

Cheers

Sorry folks but "MissingLink" the IDIOTS that run the joke of a transit

system in the Vancouver area will be charging an extra $2.50 more just

to use the three stations on the island that Vancouver's YVR Airport is on.

That means the ride into downtown will cost $6.25 each way weekdays

and $5.00 off peak times.

MissingLink, it appears wants people to NOT use their service and instead

take their car to the work at YVR because at $12.50 a round trip most

can do the same trip for less than $5 of gas and not have a loon sitting

next to them on the ride in asking them all sorts of stupid questions.

Saw the report on Global tonight, I don't think that the upcharge to YVR was any surprise, it was always thought to be the case. What was a surprise to me was the fact the the upcharge accured to "Transclunk" and not YVR ....however I wonder if "Transclunk" is paying some type of fee or royalty to YVR? That said, and I don't want to be accused of defending "Transclunk", it is half the price of the Airporter one way and about a third of the cost of a cab fare (2 persons).

I'm disappointed too. What's silly is that within those three "YVR" stations, it's free, or that if you want to go from Templeton to Bridgeport, it will cost $5 !!!

Still, it's 6.25, 1/2 the price of the airporter bus, and it'll be a lot faster.

Scott - will the usual 90 minutre travel in any direction rule still apply to this or will you be forced to pay an extra $2.50 for the return fare - I am thinking that if I want to see a person off if might be worth the extra $2.50 but not $5.00.

Also how do they intend to blend this in with the monthly passes?

Ut, I have been scanning the local papers, radio stations and even Translink sites and I can't find any details other than what was on Global last night. What did PET say...."the world will unfold as it should" or something dumb like that.

"What did PET say"

"The government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation"

Guess no golf today - it's raining right now in Vancouver but then doesn't the sun always shine on the Sunshine coast.

After one of the showers last weekend - the images below were taken from my balcony - the rainbow last for quite some time.

You mean they don't get a rain check?

I got a volunteer event this weekend to keep me busy - the Subaru Triathlon Series has a Vancouver event this weekend at Locarno Beach - helping with the setup on Saturday and will be escorting the leading ladies - now that sounds nice - around the course on Sunday -this event is been filmed for a TV broadcast so their is a very strong possibility that I could be seen in the film. They are actually looking for someone to ride with a helmet cam and filmed the run - don't have enough experience doing that to do a good job.

Cheers
