dizzy1949 Posted March 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2009 Just wondering about dining on the ship. When I think of the clothing that we have to bring for the ten days we're in Alaska, I panic! The Shoes and boots alone will weigh 25lbs:eek:. So the thought of bringing "dress up" clothes is concerning to me. How "dressed up" does anybody get? Thanks for info. RuthC Posted March 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2009 The dress code doesn't change with the itinerary. For a man "formal" can be met with a tux/dinner jacket, suit, or sport coat and tie. For a woman, a gown, or cocktail dress meets the code. Frequently a woman will wear a black skirt or fly-away pants with a beaded top. I find that a woman has it easy, since I can purchase dressy clothes that weigh no more than smart casual. There are alternatives to the dining room on formal nights. The Lido serves the same food, and you can order room service off the dinner menu.
Sleepladypalmdesert Posted March 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2009 There were lots of men that looked like they just added a jacket and tie to smart casual pants. Nobody seemed to care. Some just order a tux from ship's services, it will be in your room ready to go when you get there...shoes and all. I spoke to several people who think that is the way to go and they love it. I love formal nights. It gives me a chance to wear a really outrageous dress that I would never get to wear otherwise. I found a really slutty red dress after Christmas for a way marked down price and snapped it up. I wore it on Valentine's Day on my cruise and had the best time ever! I loved it and that red dress I may never get to wear again. I think the men get into the whole thing once they are dressed and in the crowd..er bar. My husband would like maybe a little less, maybe 1 each week rather than 2. I love the 2 and could go 3!
