3% charge for cash in casino

In the past, we always carried very little cash and withdrew money on our sail card

from the casino as needed. Is it true that they are now charging 3% to do this?

Can you still get cash, dollar for dollar, from the purser's desk?

We certainly don't want to pay a fee to spend our money!!

Thanks.

It is true. In November on Enchantment, we were not able to get money from purser's desk. They told us to use ATM or Casino.

Yes it is true. My sister and I are just off the Voyager. We were too lazy to go back to our cabin and get money out of our safe to use in the casino and we were charged a 3% surcharge. I asked the cashier if she would waive it if we got casino chips instead of cash and she told us she could not do it. So we were charged $6.00 for a $200.00 charge against our sea pass account.

The reason for this is that people were pulling thousands of dollars of cash from the casino on their sailings which charged to a credit card for no penalty and then as soon as they got home, they used the cash to pay of the card. Bottom line - they were taking advantage of credit card points. Now there is a fee to take out cash to stop this action.

The new rule has taken effect since I last sailed. You can probably still sit at a blackjack table and change $100 for chips, but you better plan on gambling at least a few minutes with it. I'm just guessing here...

Wondering, if this has hurt the Casino with less people playing slots, table games, etc...?

As I understand it, you are charged the fee at the tables as well. We didn't gamble last cruise as usual. We didn't want to carry a large amount of cash and weren't going to pay the fee on money that most likely would have been lost to them. It's not a huge sum, but it was the principle of it.

Last October I was able to cash a one time personal check for $200 at the purser's desk. This does not involve your shipboard account, and you can do it on all ships. You have to have your driver's license or ID with you to cash the check.

Once per cruise and a $200 limit; no fee.

Why am I the only one who thought this was great? lol :D

I used to use the ship's ATM and get charged up to $6.95 each transaction, no matter how small the amount.

I went into the Casino and withdrew $100 for 3 bucks. It worked for me. :D I never know if I am going to need extra cash. So I was happy with paying the $3.
