Grand Wailea worth it?

Good afternoon everyone,

I was hoping anyone who's stayed at the Grand Wailea could help me out. My fiance and I will be spending our honeymoon in Maui in November. We are spending the first week at the Lahaina Shores (it's oceanfront and reasonably priced) and than we wanted to spend the next 3 days at a much nicer resort in Wailea and we are thinking of the Grand Wailea. This resort looks beautiful and I was hoping I could get some opinions about it?

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The Grand Wailea used to be one of our favorite resort destinations on Maui. When they replaced the orchids in the lobby with impatiens, the property was littered with trash, and the attitude of staff changed we made a change. Our very favorite location is the Sheraton Maui on Kaanapali. This is just my opinion but comes after checking out of the Grand Wailea to transfer to the Sheraton. And...since....we have not gone back to the Grand Wailea. You will have a great time no matter where you are, just my opinion. Cherie

We've never stayed there, but have walked through and had drinks. That was about 10 years ago during a renovation. We have friends who stayed there last summer and were extremely disappointed. The rooms had not been kept up or properly cleaned (and no, they aren't "fanatics" who complain about every little thing), the property was looking "tired" and "worn" and not cared for, and the whole experience was not what they expected.

Ugh, that's not what I was hoping to hear. We really would like to stay in Wailea (since we'll be in West Maui for the first week of our honeymoon, we wanted to stay in South Maui the second part, which is why we haven't really seriously considered the Sheraton, Westin, Hyatt, etc.)...The Four Seasons looks beautiful, but their prices are even quite a bit more than the Grand Wailea's...The Maui Prince is an option too, but a bit further from Wailea than we were hoping for....

I have not stayed at the Grand Wailea, but I spent a day there last year. Friends had a room and I got to see that. I thought it was lovely but I have no idea what "type" of room it was. I remember that the bathroom was larger than the last hotel room we had in Waikiki :D

The beach is very nice, as are all the pools. But, since I had never been to this resort before, I could not tell if it was looking run-down. I would never turn down a chance to stay there.

I live on Maui and I would have to say if you gave any local people a choice of where to stay on the Island they would all pick the Grand Wailea. It has the best pool and one of the best beaches. Another choice would be the Wailea Marriott, its right next door to the Grand, its also very nice. The Four Seasons is on the other side of the Grand and is very nice but very expensive, although your chances of seeing someone famous are very good because all the famous people stay there. There was a period when the employees were very unhappy at the Grand, thats when KSL owned the hotel. Its now a Hilton and they are putting alot of $$ into the property. I do alot of work there. If you do decide to stay in any of these hotels get ready to pay alot for food, when we stay there we walk to the Shops At Wailea and get food there. A cheese burger at the Grand will run about $17!! The Maui Prince is just about 2 miles down the road and is getting old. It will be torn down in a couple of years. Hope this was helpful.
