Taxi in Colon to Gatun Locks

50 yo female going with 80 yo mom to Colon on the Freedom next week.

All the Carnival excursions are way too long for for her. We just want a quick look at the canal and locks without other stops. Would taking a cab at the pier be safe? Has anyone done this?
