CruiserSteve Posted March 9, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2009 Hi...We're booked on Crown Princess leaving July 19 from Southhampton, England. We want to do a couple of sdays in Paris precruise. What's the best way to travel to Southhampton..Air or Rail. Thanks.
caribill Posted March 9, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2009 I would expect that rail is. If for no reason than to avoid the fun airports in Paris and London.
captainron Posted March 9, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2009 Yes, believe it or not, rail is faster. It deletes the requirement to be at the airport early for checkin and security. Besides Heathrow's ontime arrival record sits at only 67%..rather dismal in today's day and age. I'd suggest that you take the Eurostar through the Chunnel (2h35) and once in London catch the next train to Southampton (anywhere from 2h15 to 1h14, depending on time of day). May require a transfer but you'd have to take the train to SOU anyway once arriving in LON. Eurostars arrive in St Pancreas stn and SOU trains depart from Waterloo stn. Ciao for now!!! Sauvignon Posted March 9, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2009 It is possible to fly non-stop SOU to Paris flybe.com some great prices available. And SOU is a very pleasant airport.

What's the best way to travel to Southhampton..Air or Rail. Thanks. Personally I'd far rather fly than drag luggage across London to change stations and there is no need to come via LHR. You can fly direct from Paris (ORY) to Southampton on Air France or from Paris (CDG) on FlyBe in seventy minutes and there are several flights day. Take a look on Air France's website and also FlyBe www.flybe.com for schedules and fares.
