Hiring gerry for east tour and san gervasio

I have read several posts on here that say that Gerry is a great tour guide if you want to do San Gervasio, have him wait for you and then do the other side of the island. What I was wondering is - does he have other tour guides also that work for him as well? We are going in April on Imagination Carnival ship and will be in Cozumel from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM ship time. I understand that in Cozumel the time will be earlier which would help since the ruins close at 4:00 I'm told. Our problem is we have a large group of people and if they all want to do the same tour we would need more than one van. Would he be able to supply that or does he work just himself? Does anyone else know of any tour agencies that will let you plan your own day and are in the same price range that accomodate? We would like to go to San Gervasio and then either to the East Coast to visit El Mirador and/or lighthouse. We don't really want to do lunch because we get in late and will eat on ship at noon. Maybe just a snack if anything or wait till we get back into town to save time. If we didn't go to the East coast we thought about an hour or two of snorkeling at either Playa Corona or Dzu-Hal? If not too late in the day by time we tour San Gervasio. Then we would like to be able to find a taxi back to town if we do the snorkeling? Is that feasible. Would like a little time to shop and picture take downtown before returning to the ship. Will a tour be willing to drop you downtown at end of it instead of at the ship or do you need to get a taxi to go back into town again once returning from the tour? Thanks for any feedback and help.

We had Gerry during our visit the last week in Feb. He is very good. He can get a van and I am sure that he could arange for other drivers as needed.

Our ship was early arriving, we went to the taxi line where we were to meet and the guy there called and Gerry was there in just a few min. They are on central time there. You should be able to get to the ruins in time to see most of them (they are a small ruins). It is very nice there. You should be able to go to the ruins, visit the east side and then go back to town and tour that area with plenty of time to shop if you want.

Yes, I know of at least 2 other drivers that work with him.

We just hired him in January for our family of four and it was GREAT!!!!

The great thing about hiring your own driver is that YOU design the tour

specifically to YOUR needs!!

Gerry will even bring an ice chest along if you want to stop at a grocery and fill it with ice, soda and beer...snacks...whatever you would like.

Gerry speaks English very well...but his written English is still on the rough side...so Mike handles Gerry's reservations.

Just email Mike at Cozumeltaxi@hotmail.com and ask any and all questions you need. They will take good care of you.

Thanks for the info! How were the mosquitoes there? We're going end of April. Does Gerry still charge 95.00 for like 3 hrs? Anyone know how much it would cost for a van of 8 people? We would really like to go to San Gervasio and then possibly to Playa Corona Beach to snorkel if time allows. Would a taxi take you to San Gervasio, wait there for you and drop you at Playa Corona? Has anyone done the flea market with Gerry? What was that like? Thanks again.

There were no bugs at all when we were there the last week of Feb. Gerry will get a bigger van if you need one, not sure about the cost. If you email mike, he can tell you the cost. We had Gerry for about 6 1/2 hours and he charged us $110. We tipped him another $40. As far as a taxi waiting for you, it would be cheaper to hire a driver like Gerry. Gerry will even wait while you snorkel and take you right back to the ship when you are done.

Never done the flea market so can't comment on that.

Gerry's rates used to be $80.00 for 3 hours and $20 an hour after that....

BUT that was before the taxi union's rate increase. (the unions control all taxi services in Cozumel)

The rate is now $95.00 for 3 hours (which is the minimum) and $25.00 a hour after that.

I believe this same rate may apply for the station wagon or the van....just be sure to ask Mike.

We have never had a problem with insects in Cozumel.

Here is a picture of Gerry and his van...

We just reserved Gerry for our visit in May. Station wagon is $95 for 3 hours plus $25 per hour after. Mike says the van is $195 for 3 hours and $40 per hour after. But it holds 8 people so the cost per person is about the same.
