German Wunderkind Posted April 29, 2004 Author #28 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Hi Brandis The boarding in Hamburg and the lack of deckchairs in the solarium area are two of the weak points on my list for the review. As you can see or guess in one of my pictures there had been only ten (10) chairs or so placed around the interior solarium pool. Another ten had been placed on both sides to look out of the windows. Glad they bought and brought some chairs on board. The boarding procedure is something which has to do with the Hamburg Cruise Center and the organisation of the process. So nothing to worry about for other ports - hopefully There were some roumors in the crew about the grandmother. But noone I spoke to would officially or inofficially tell only one name. justcruzin85374 You would be surprised if I’d tell the truth here. But to be honest: You wouldn’t believe how much beer some of the old retired Germans drank during that cruise. I hope they did not drink because they did not like the Jewel. NHTraveler Posted April 29, 2004 #31 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Thanks Mike - I will explore the thread to date and see what is happening - So there is a NHCruiser from Nashua - interesting - I know a lot of people here in NH, once they start cruising, they are hooked. German Wunderkind Posted April 30, 2004 Author #34 Share Posted April 30, 2004 Flamingosun Unfortunately for the German yard, the spectators of the journey over the narrow river Ems to the sea and to all the people who loves Radiance class she will be the last. Brandis Posted April 30, 2004 #37 Share Posted April 30, 2004 OK, my photos are online. Just go to www.brandis.org and follow the link there. At the moment, all images still have generic names, but I will fix that as soon as possible. A favorite of mine is PICT0117 on page 10. It is a t-shirt in the gift shop. Who spots the error? It will become a collector's item for sure... :-) Concerning the embarkation problems in Hamburg. I was told by people who did the first and second cruise that after a lot of people had complained on Monday that RCL really took the critics to heart and fixed a lot. It seems embarkation on Wednesday was much more organized. More details to follow, have to go to bed now, it was a long day... Any questions? I'll be happy to answer if I can! BTW: Has anyone got images from the welcome-point.de webcam from Jewels passage on wednesday evening? Or from any other cam on the river from that evening? Brandis Posted April 30, 2004 #38 Share Posted April 30, 2004 jstducky, I didn't really pay attention, but it seems the majority of tables were 8 and 10. I remember seeing tables for 2 and possibly 4 on Brilliance last summer. But the table layout seems to be a bit different on Jewel. Especially the room between tables seemed extremly tight... Brandis Posted May 1, 2004 #44 Share Posted May 1, 2004 I haven't bought the shirt... The shop staff were aware of the mistake. :-) The food on page 10 was Chops. Great service. I'm not sure if they usually do this (at least they didn't when we ate at Chops last summer on Brilliance) but before ordering they brought a cart with all the different pieces of raw meat they have on offer and explained what it was. But they were just for display, you couldn't choose your exact piece from it... Marc
Brandis Posted May 1, 2004 #45 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Oh, just thought about this... They have the plastic shower doors on Jewel (like Voyager-class ships) whereas Brilliance had a shower curtain. Great change! I will soon put up scans of the Cruise Compasses and Chop's menu as well as one of the Dining Room menus. Marc

German Wunderkind Posted May 1, 2004 Author #48 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Hi Brandis Hope you enjoyed the Jewel as much as we did! If think it's not suprising that the daily planner is exactly the same than on Voyage No.1 but what suprised my was that you got the same menu card in the Tides Dining Room. I feel sorry for all those back to back cruises because the even got the same show (West End to Broadway) on Wednesday evening. How was the Tango Show on Thursday? We had Soul Satisfaction as headliner showtime the first night. Brandis Posted May 1, 2004 #49 Share Posted May 1, 2004 In the german version of the daily planner, they even forgot to replace the disembarkation port Hamburg with Oslo... :-) "Tango Buenos Aires" was awesome. It got standing ovations. It was interesting to see how the german audience reacts to the shows. If one of the musicians started a solo, they began to clap. Also with some songs, they clapped along. Both I haven't seen on cruises with mostly american passengers. During the backstage tour in the theatre on Thursday they were doing rehearsals for another show which includes a flying act, similiar to one of the shows on Voyager. Merion_Mom Posted May 1, 2004 #50 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Brandis, Let me add my voice to the chorus of "thank you"s! Your comments and pictures are invaluable. I am probably getting TOO excited, since our cruise is still 8 long months away! We haven't been on a Radiance class ship before, and I have been a bit apprehensive about my teenagers not liking it as much as the Explorer, but I can see that everything will be fine. They are old enough to appreciate the elegance and beauty of this brand-new ship, and besides, WHO CARES? IT'S A CRUISE, and MOM will love it so that should make them happy, right?
