C-Lark Posted May 1, 2004 #51 Share Posted May 1, 2004 To Marc.....Brandis The pics were great. Thank you, Thank you, for the treat. I can hardly wait until I view all the shots in person, when I sail the NE/Canada cruise in October. You certainly were efficient in posting the pictures to all of us from Cruise Critic. Thanks again. Bob and Nancy from N.E.

blackpool belle Posted May 1, 2004 #53 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Brandis, My sentiments echoes everybody elses - Fab pics thanks. Heather1953 we are also on next Saturdays cruise. Just thought I would mention that we have a great thread going on the meet & mingle site entitled JEWEL OF THE SEAS MAY 8 2004 ANYBODY GOING? started by Sammy888. If you are interested it would be great if you could join us. You have until 3 days before sailing date at the latest to register. Hope to see you on board. To 7nucruzers - I am in cabin 9578 which is only 6 down from where you are when you sail, so I would imagine the cabins will be the same. If you want me to I will send you a report about them when we get home.
Brandis Posted May 1, 2004 #54 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Carol, Your teenagers should find plenty to do. There is a teen club with its own disco, they can do rock climbing and minigolf and a lot of other things... Heatherb, for the countdown clock, check this link: http://www.escati.com/counter98/free_time_codes.htm Hope this helps! Cruise99 Posted May 1, 2004 #55 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Thanks for the wonderful pics. We are so looking forward to our June sailing. Can anyone tell me if there are audio/video input jacks on the front of the televisions in the cabin? I have a RoadStor CD-RW device which allows me to copy pics from SD cards to CD. I plug the device in to view the pics on the TV to make sure they were copied ok. thanks, gary April 17,2004 Tahitian Princess Cruise</p> <FONT face=Verdana color=#009900>Jewel OTS <a href="http://home.comcast.net/~cruise-99/Fjords/html/start.html"> Jewel of the Seas (Norwegian Fjords)</a></FONT></P> Cruises Home Page (Check out my cruise reports) Celebrity --Constellation (8/16/03) ; Millenium (5/20/02) , (11/3/00); Mercury (5/19/00) RCCL -- Legend of the Seas (12/9/02) NCL -- Norweagian Sun (9/10/01) Carnival -- Triumph (6/3/00)</a>; Fascination (3/27/99); Fantasy; Ecstasy; Celebration Premier (Big Red Boat) -- Oceanic (4/1/96) Windjammer -- Yankee Trader (3N Bahamas) 10/

Brandis Posted May 2, 2004 #58 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Gary, No, there were no connections in the TV, as far as I know also not on the back... rtb, Sorry, no casino pictures. The decor was quite nice though with statues and stained glass windows. It seems Germans don't care much for gambling, as the casino was pretty dead most of the time. goodml Posted May 2, 2004 #60 Share Posted May 2, 2004 The pictures are fabulous. We are sailing the Jewel in December and I noticed on the deck plan that there is a teen pool with water slide. I didn't see any photos of that pool and I'm wondering if it really is there. I just had to tell my 14 year old that the solarium is adult only (yes!) and I'm hoping that I don't have to tell him that there's no teen pool. (He's really not that shallow and he knows there are bigger problems in the world than this but if he decides to give me attitude about it, he might just have to stay home with Grandma!) German Wunderkind Posted May 2, 2004 Author #61 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Goodml Let me make your son happy : There is a pool with a water slide just behind the Viking Crown Lounge. It’s attached to all the Adventure Ocean areas there. Sorry that I didn’t take a picture but there were so many photo opportunities that you simply can not take a photo of every corner (you’ll see it in December). But the pool is similar to that on other Radiance class ships. So just look on the Internet for pictures of Radiance/Brilliance or Serenade and you’ll find pictures of this area. So enjoy your cruise and the new Jewel of the Seas. Brandis Posted May 2, 2004 #65 Share Posted May 2, 2004 That's a teen pool? Last summer on Brilliance, the oldest kids in there were maybe 5 and also the decor is geared towards that age (a fish is the shower)... The teens were all hanging out at the main pool. Brandis Posted May 2, 2004 #66 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Paul, It's a Minolta DiMAGE F200 and most photos were taken without flash. If it is not too dark, the camera automatically counters the missing light with a longer exposure time. Some images (especially those taken against a window, eg. the cabin picture) I lightened up using Photoshop Elements. Marc

German Wunderkind Posted May 3, 2004 Author #72 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Brandis At least it’s designed for the Teens. But I agree it’s more appealing for kind under age 8 or so. As you can see in signature I was never on a Radiance Class ship in the Caribbean. During the Transcanel there weren’t more then 30 or so children onboard and in Alaska they even opened the Solarium Pool for the kinds -at least for 2 hours in the morning and in the afternoon. I thought it was a nice idea cause the weather was bad the whole cruise. Babylene You’re welcome. But keep in mind that it’s a personal view. I just turned 30 a couple of years ago that’s why I’m normally looking for a cruise with more activity. I love Radiance class because they are more elegant than Voyager class and more intimate. I especially love the Colony Club, the Seaview Cafe and the Centrum area. And during the Panama Canal you have plenty of open Decks to look at the locks. On Celebrity Millenium Class you don’t have such an elegant area like the Colony Club. The Martini/Champagne Bar and the Rendezvous lounge are all put together in one area and are connected with a single stage. The Disco is very large and if you are on a sailing with lots of older people maybe it’s too large to get the party started. The Grand Foyer area on Millenium class is simply disappointing to me. I haven’t put it on the web but you can look at it in other photo galleries. There are limited open Deck areas. For example you normally can’t access the helipad and there is no promenade deck going around the stern. Only from deck 10 and 11 you can look back. What I liked on Summit and Constellation was the service and the food. The people on Royal Caribbean are all very friendly and the best waiter we had was on Radiance but in general the staff on Celebrity is still doing a little bit more. The food (in the main dining room) is comparable but in my personal opinion it’s a little bit better on Celebrity. On the other hand I’ll have to say we got some really special meals on Radiance. From the entertainment point the shows are better on Celebrity. So is it a big difference? Yes it is, because they appeal to complete different cruisers but it’s still a cruise vacation . The cabins are similar in space and interior design (not the colours !). You’ll find bars, restaurants and friendly staff. It’s all about how much service you are expecting and which of the features of the ships you want or need. I’m pretty sure you’ll have a great vacation on both ships. If you have specific questions I’m happy to answer them. Otherwise I would suggest posting a question on the Celebrity and the RCL board. There are a lot of people who cruised on both lines and they’ll be happy to answer you. sportsnut There are a couple of tables for 2 in the dining room but if I remember it correctly they were not in the primary locations. But you can request a table for 2 and then go to the dining room right after boarding and have a look. If you don’t like it go to the Maitr d’ and request a change. 42trvl Posted May 3, 2004 #73 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Thanks for all the pictures. Just booked Jewel for next Spring break with the kids. They just sailed Celebrity Summit and we all loved it. 42trvl Posted May 3, 2004 #74 Share Posted May 3, 2004 I can't believe I posted my question to Wunderkind before reading all posts, and you've already answered some of my questions. But what do you mean about appealing to different types of cruisers? Who does each appeal to? Thanks.
Brandis Posted May 3, 2004 #75 Share Posted May 3, 2004 I didn't see any tables for 2 on Jewel, but then I wasn't really looking for them. On Brilliance, they had tables for 2 next to the columns, basically between the grand staircase and the columns. The fabric, which encloses the columns were stained, so I was glad to see that they didn't have tables right next to the columns on Jewel.
