rude to tablemates?

In addition to all the ideas above. When you order more than one entrée, instruct the waiter to bring them both at the same time. It is unlikely that you want to eat an entire entrée anyway.

Like Prime Rib and Lobster, that's what you really want. Surf AND Turf, not Surf, THEN Turf. :D You don't want a double order of the sides, do you?

While I would sometimes like to order more than one course, entree at dinner I don't want to extend the meal for my tablemates who may be in a hurry to do another activity. Solution?

I don't care what other people may think. Therefore, order what you want and have it. You may not see that item again on the menu. If they want to do another activity then that doesn't have anything to do with you. There is no perfect solution. Do what you want. Your friends will do what they want.
