Crown Princess Motion

We have been on the Crown for 5 one week cruises. We have experienced varying weather conditions during those trips. Our latest cruise on the Crown was February 22nd and we had some strong winds on the trip. We were in an aft balcony and did not notice anything unusual other than the vibrations aft from the thrusters during docking.

I just got off the Crown yesterday. She's no different than any other ship. Most of the week was smooth sailing. We had a couple of nights of large swells and the movement of ship was just what I would expect in those kind of seas.

I was on the Crown for 3 months in 2007 and encountered some very rough seas. Here movement then was no different than any other cruise ship. I was back on board in February and did not notice any increased motion or noise.

Just off the Crown in October. I did notice more movement on this cruise than others we did in October. But, this cruise we had experienced more rain and sea swells than cruises in the past. However, it wasn't enough to make me sick or uncomfortable. Any ship will have movement in rough sea swells or high winds.

I am sailing the Crown Princess next month. I've read several people saying the ship rocks more than others. Is this true or are these just people very sensitive to motion?? Past Crown Princess sailors, what's the deal with this?
Anyone who tells you that one ship rocks more than others doesn't know what they're talking about. In general, ships with a shallow draft and tall decks are more subject to wind, waves and currents; ships that are designed more like ocean liners, i.e., deeper draft, narrower hull, not as many decks, etc. will be more stable. Some of the older ships and very few of the newer ships, for instance, the Cunard ships, are designed more line ocean liners. Pretty much all others have relatively shallow drafts (so they can get close to shore to anchor or dock in shallower waters) and as the combination of wind, waves and currents is pretty much infinite, it's pretty darned impossible to compare one experience with another. You'd have to have access to sophisticated instruments and nautical charts to be able to say you're experiencing more motion than another ship.

I was on the Crown on her February 15th sailing. I don't think it rocked more than any other ship. What I did notice without a doubt was the strong vibrations that occurred at times. People can deny it as much as they want but that is factual. We were in the casino and we thought the roof was going to fall in. A man I met on the cruise who is a professional engineer said he heard that the stabilizers on the Crown are different than any he has ever heard of. So does it rock more--No. Does it vibrate more--Yes, at times, and it is somewhat scary and noticeable depending where you are on the ship.

We spent 25 days on the Crown on last years TA crossing and never experienced an uncomfortable day the whole trip and we were high up on Aloha deck~~She's a great ship and I think you'll really enjoy her!!icon7.gificon7.gif
