wcurry66 Posted March 27, 2009 #158 Share Posted March 27, 2009 I acknowledge there are people who are unable to see the message without being distracted by spelling. I'm sorry for your limitation. My limitation is that I am unable to see whats on paper; rather I see what I believe I typed. I would not be published without an editor. Praise the goddess for editors! Unfortunately for those us with such limitation, squiggly red lines, reading what we posted before sending, using a dictionary/thesaurus doesn't not fix this. I agree to humor your analness if you agree to humor my funky spelling It's all good

GreenZolie Posted April 5, 2009 #162 Share Posted April 5, 2009 I am the spelling/grammar **** at my work, and have been know to correct co-worker's documents, much to their annoyance. :D But, I learned a long time ago not to correct spelling in online forums (even though the mistakes drive me crazy, too!) - because just as soon as I do, I will surely make a mistake of my own in my correction post. Such as the time I told someone they has "mispelled" a certain word - and I left that second s out of misspelled! Which was caught by a slew of other posters, of course. As for grammar, I also discovered it is much faster and easier to write posts on a forum such as this, as if I were speaking the words in a conversation - such as starting a new sentence and paragraph with the word 'But' as in the paragraph above - rather than worrying about writing a document that might suffer the consequences of Mrs. Pommer's red ink pen, who would have had a stroke had I started a sentence with the word 'But'. She probably would have also had a stroke to see that very long sentence, lol. :D In case anyone is wondering - Mrs. Pommer was my Junior High English Teacher who taught me everything I know about grammar. :) I remember most of it, and the rest, well, if it's wrong now, it's too bad, because it is all so ingrained now, there's no changing me! ;) And what does this have to do with a Carnival Cruise? Well, I promise if I meet any of you in 13 days on the Ecstasy, I won't correct your grammar if you won't correct mine, and I'll even try not to flinch should I hear some atrocity. :D This being only my second post on CC, I hope I haven't made any faux pas'! GreenZolie Posted April 5, 2009 #163 Share Posted April 5, 2009 Oooops, I didn't realize the use of the term "grammar natzi" (misspelled on purpose) was not allowed. Sorry! I have used that term for so long, I forget it is viewed by some as derogatory. I will make a point to go read the rules and regulations before I post again, lol. BND Posted April 5, 2009 #165 Share Posted April 5, 2009 Oooops, I didn't realize the use of the term "grammar natzi" (misspelled on purpose) was not allowed. Sorry! I have used that term for so long, I forget it is viewed by some as derogatory. I will make a point to go read the rules and regulations before I post again, lol. Haha. "Grammar" wasn't the problem. We will always see grammar and spelling mistakes. I used to volunteer in my boys elementary school and we weren't allowed to correct their spelling or grammar. For some reason, they thought they'd learn just by doing. I corrected my own kids and they are great writers today, but not sure why they thought kids would just learn by repeating mistakes if no one was allowed to tell them any differently. It was called "creative spelling". I called it crap.

Not to mention it is against the guidelines: Spelling and Grammar Errors It is important to remember that everyone makes mistakes at one time or another, and that there are many users who use English as a second language, especially on our Cruise Boards. There are also a number of people who suffer from learning disabilities and who have difficulty noticing their spelling mistakes. Do not make comments on the spelling and grammar of other users. It is simply not a productive expenditure of energies.
