Deposits on RCI UK office cruises

Recommended Posts

With the economy as it is at present I am toying with cancelling my cruise for this year.I believe that if you have booked a cruise through the UK office and cancel then you will loose your deposit. I know this isnt true for the USA office but it is practise for all UK holidays/cruises booked from any company, I am therefore prepared to loose it if needs be. However perhaps someone could let me know if I can transfer the deposit to a cruise next year which will hopefully by then see an upturn in industry or at the very least give me more time to save the money.

Thanks for posting the question; a definitive answer would be really worthwhile. If you give them a call to have that discussion could you post the response you get please.

I would dearly have loved to have had that conversation with the powers that be this last weekend at the cruise show. There are a number of issues where we in the UK are treated differently to the US clientele.

I have done that exact thing this morning. I swapped my Freedom cruise to a week Med on the Navigator. Half the price which I can afford! It cost £35 PP to change it. I was tempted to just book the 3 night Paris trip next year, it was coming up at £600 in all - Rather than lose my £200 deposit.

Hope this helps! Credit crunch has a lot to answer for.. No Labadee for me :(

Had you booked directly with RCL or through a TA? Only asking as we swapped our May Navigator cruise for one in June (booked direct) and weren't charged anything.

Booked through RCL - Oh really? I've just cheched my cruise online and £70 has been added! Not too bothered, but will be calling them up again and adding our C&A numbers to the booking - might just enquire about it. Had a bit of problems with the Customer services department over the Freedom cruise, I never actually got written or email confirmation from them. 12 phone calls to them and over 2 months since booking.. and they are always rude saying it will be with you in a week. 2 months later, nothing! ( betcha it turns up tomorrow!!) - The nice lady today told us to be patient this one will be here soon..

I'm sure I read on here a while ago that if your "amendment" ends up costing more you don't have to pay the £35pp admin fee....otherwise you do!?? Does that make sense?

I asked the same question about changing our cruise when I booked direct with RCI here in the Uk and I was told I would be allowed to change itonce without incurring any charges. After that it would be £35 or thereabouts fee.

Havent seen this in writing but that is what the guy in RCI office told me!

Hello All,

I have thankfully transferred my cruise from this coming Sept to Sept 2010. The new cruise cost is £55 more expensive but I will as always keep my eye on the prices to see if they reduce. Because the cruise is more expensive they didnt charge the £35 each admin charge but they would have done otherwise. It isnt quite as straight forward if you have a fly/cruise booked, they first put me through to the air desk to check if there would be any costs for changing the flights which thankfully there were not. I have to congratulate all of the RCI uk cruise specialists that I spoke to as they were all very efficient and helpful. They had even emailed me a confirmation within 2 mins of our telephone conversation.

I would also like to thank all the previous posters for their helpful comments,

Cheers All
