What happens if you book directly with the excursion and your ship skips that port?

I'm a first timer. If I book say, the dolphin encounter, directly with the dolphin people, and weather intervenes so the ship does not go to the port, do I lose my money?

It's best to ask the question of the tour people. If you have prepaid then there is the chance that you will not get a refund IMHO. Even though credit cards offer some protection if it is paid several months in advance it would be more difficult to invoke your privileges.

OTOH most of the tour suppliers that you will read about on CC are honest. They depend on continued business for their livelyhood.

I would still prefer to have a reservation and pay when we arrive.

If the refund policy of the operator is not on their website, I would write an email asking what the policy is (and saving the reply for future reference). Then I would book the tour.

I missed a tour for Antigua once and the operator readily refunded my money . . . legit operators understand that ships are sometimes late . . .
