Recommended Posts

Please help! I already booked my flights and RCCL is telling me my return "HAS" to be after 12:30p, and we're on the 12:05p and to change the flight will cost us $200!

Help save the honeymoon!

why does you're return have to be after 12:30? what time does the ship get in? isn't 8 or 8:30?

anyhow, a good place to check out transportation from the pier to LAX or vice versa is to contact Super Shuttle

they have great rates and will take you directly to the pier and pick you up directly from the pier.

of course there's always taxis that you can find right at the pier or at LAX, but they will cost you more.

hope you have a great cruise!

ps... btw, where is Scotts Valley? Nor cal?

Get the earliest "tags" (I believe they're white), so as soon as the ship clears customs you'll be ready to get off the ship... then grab the first taxi you can to get you to airport.. you'll make it in plenty of time.. don't worry.

We just grabbed a taxi as we got off the ship. No problems and was very fast to get to LAX. Cheaper than PrimeTime and Super Shuttle rates for the 4 of us.

We had a flight that left about the same time last May, and we made it to the airport in PLENTY of time. I believe we were there by 9:00 or 9:30.

As far as transfers, we arranged to use Super Shuttle and found it very economical and convenient. It was much better the using the ship's transfers.

I'm happy to see this question posted, as I have the same problem.

I was told yesterday from RCL that your flight had to be b4 1:30pm..($38 rd. trip for transfer pp)..guess you'll get different answers from each person you speak with at customer service.

My agent told me today that she had a fax from RCL and they have discontinued LAX to port transfer, but is doing Port to LAX...this doesn't make sense...and she stated that comment. So,if this is true, could one of you previous LAX cruisers quote a price on the shuttle and taxi service? It would be appreciated and I thank you ahead of time.

We used SuperShuttle both directions last September...happened to meet-up with another couple going on the same cruise...was only about $55 for all four of us each way. Very efficient and inexpensive. We, also, had an early flight and exchanged our tags, the night before departure, for white ones. Had to show our tix to verify the flight time, but was not a problem at all! When are you sailing? We are on the Vision 5/23 for its repositioning trip to Vancouver!!!

I just got back from the Vision of the Seas yesterday. Our flight was at 12:05 pm. We didn't use the RCCL Transfer we used SuperShuttle. The cost is $24 for the first person $9 each extra person plus a $1 gas surcharge per person that they just started doing. It is cheaper then the Bus Charter (if you have more then 2 people) to LAX which is $19 a person flat. Hope that helps

There are several restaurants near the peir but other than that there is really not that much. What I would do is get a taxi to the pier and drop off your luggage and then go into Long Beach which is just over the bridge and spend a few hours there shopping etc. What time are you getting in? I have taken several cruises of of San Pedro and normally they will start letting you on at about Noon or shortly after.

springclean04:

LAX is actually about 25 miles north of the Port of Los Angeles. It will probably take you 30 minutes to 1 hour of travel time to get down to San Pedro (where the pier is located) depending on the day you arrive and traffic conditions. I haven't been down to the actual pier and the world cruise center for awhile, so I don't exactly know what there is to (if anything there).

However, I have a suggestion for you, especially if you are traveling with kids. And even if you aren't traveling with kids, if you are a nature person you will like this. Right next to San Pedro is the city of Long Beach. Right near on the harbor, across from the Queen Mary is The Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. Its not as great as the Monterey Bay Aquarium (if you've ever been there) but it is a decent aquarium nonetheless. I think admission is around $15 per person. I don't know what day you're coming in, but you should check on the hours of operation. It will occupy your time for a few hours to half a day depending on how in to it you are.

Another suggestion is to go to the Queen Mary. Its basically right by where Carnival has their cruise ship dock. Its kind of fun to explore the Queen Mary and her legend of ghosts and what not.

Finally, the Long Beach/San Pedro area is right on the harbor. If you don't want to spend too much money just walking around the harbor itself is nice.

Here is a link for Things to Do in Long Beach from Long Beach's official city website.

Hope some of these suggestions help...
