First Impressions

For those of you who have traveled on at least one cruise, what do you think is the most amazing first impression about being on a ship? After all, you really never do know what to expect before you get onto a ship for the very first time.

For me it was the size of the ship. The first glimpse was of the outside as we were pulling up to the terminal and seeing the ship towering over the terminal building was awesome. Then when we boarded and entered the atrium - WOW! :D

My first impression on my very first cruise scared the you-know-what out of me!! It was many, many years ago on the old Dolphin cruiseline. I went solo (just had to get away), and I walked on to find the chalked outline of a body on the floor, with police tape roping the area off, with photographers and 'police' checking things out. My TA neglected to mention it was a 'murder mystery cruise'. I thought to myself "what did I get myself into????" Finally saw the marquis that explained it all!!! I still think of that first time almost every time I get on a ship...but forget it as soon as I see the magnificent centrums.....

Before sailing I thought about my cabin, the food, etc. I didn't expect the unimaginable feeling when the ship pulls away from the dock and starts moving! It's still the most thrilling moment for me every time I cruise.

My first impression of Navigator Of The Seas. My wife and I -and 4 friends were coming into Miami from Ft. Lauderdale in the back of a limo(my first limo ride), when our driver pointed out the window and said "There's your ship". I looked, but all I could see were large buildings:confused: . He said the same thing and pointed again out the window--- then I recognized the "bridge" area of a ship - connected to a very large building:confused: (very confusing). Then it hit me that, THAT was the ship, and I thought ~ WOW, SOMETHING THAT BIG ACTUALLY FLOATS?!?!:D :D

was on the venerable Carnival Mardi Gras (it's recently gone to the scrap heap), Carnival's first ship. Imagine my "awe" when I discovered my toilet was

actually IN the shower area. Compared with the ships today, this was truly

primitive, and yet this little 4 day Bahama's cruise back in 1986 was a blast

and got me hooked!

These days, my biggest 'oh wow' moment is a tie between that first breathtaking moment when you enter the atrium/centrum, and when your ship "parks"

at a doublesided port, and you disembark and walk between your huge

ship and another huge ship...it's pretty awesome. I think cruiseships are

such a marvel.

as i'm reading post i also was going to say the size! but thinking back to this past winter the thing that kept coming back to me was hearing and seeing the water pass by the ship. this was my first cruise, never really been on a boat or a ship like the EOS. I just keep thinking of going out on deck five and looking out at the ocean feeling the wind the smell of the water.

now as i write that i realize it may not be my "first impression" but its the impression that sticks with me. Can't wait this this february!!!

ok my first impression is "WOW" is this for me! :D

I think the first 'whoa' moment was walking thru the doors into the centrum... Going into my first cruise, my travel friend and I were fighting, we didn't know what we were getting into with this cruise thing and we weren't in the best of moods.. but as soon as we walked onto the ship the amazement of the whole thing took over. The trip was fabulous and now we're addicted... and generally not fighting when we're on our way to a cruise! :)

:p I do agree that seeing this big city on the water was so amazing. The memory that still amazes me is being on the balcony of the NCL Norwegian Star in the pacific ocean, wow, and seeing the sun rise and set from the balcony on my 50th birthday with my daughter and husband, unbelievable and something I will never forget. I was hooked and have loved cruising ever since.

I have not Yet gone our first cruise but in reading all the things posted got me to think, there will be more people on the ship than the total number of people of a small town I use to live in (Janesville California POP.200) just the thought of it all is a bit much.

I agree here. When you are standing between 2 ships, it is very much like "Oh Wow!"

Would have to be everything inside the ship. My first cruise wasn't very big (was on the old Dolphin line as well), but I couldn't believe how much stuff was on this thing. Cabins, resturants, clubs, bars, shops. I was like being in on a floating city. Then, you go to bed, get rocked by the waves, and wake up in another country - now that is COOL!!!!!
