nurse1960 Posted April 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2009 We have cruised before, but not on NCL Sun for many years. We are leaving for Alaska in a few weeks. Please give me any hints/good deals and things I should look out for. Any other suggestions, favorite things, places to eat, etc.
lgfromdg Posted April 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2009 My tip would be not to miss eating at Il Adagio; such a great restaurant.
big green Posted April 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2009 go to Las Ramblas for lunch have deli sandwich made to order and soup-- also go to Las Ramblas for tappas in the evening ( no charge ) --I enjoyed both of these on our 18 day cruise on the Sun in Nov. 2008. Also i had the best double cut Lamb Chops I ever had in the East Meets West speciality restaurant. Big Green
jjb415 Posted April 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 8, 2009 My tip would be not to miss eating at Il Adagio; such a great restaurant. Good advice, I like going early when you can enjoy the wonderful view from every table. Alaska cruisers in mid-summer have the nice advantage of the very long days and good views late into the evening !! :)

jjb415 Posted April 9, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2009 A tip that I thought of for the Norwegian Sun, as well as other NCL ships, is for people who enjoy eating in the buffet for breakfast and lunch. Although the actual dining area of the buffet on NCL ships is smaller than the ships of most other cruise lines, you may eat in the adjacent bars and restaurants. For example on the Norwegian Sun, you may take your buffet food across the ship and eat in the Sports Bar and Pacific Heights restaurant. The first few days of a sailing usually have lots of space in these alternate areas. Happy Sailing !! :)
nurse1960 Posted April 9, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted April 9, 2009 Sounds like cruisers love this ship. We are excited!:p
garycarla Posted April 9, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 9, 2009 Great tip before heading on an Alaska cruise is to visit the PORTS OF CALL message boards and click on ALASKA.
richtersl Posted April 9, 2009 #10 Share Posted April 9, 2009 The Observation Lounge is a great place to chill out during the day. At least during Caribbean Cruises it is, because it's practically empty then and the view is terrific. When you return from excursions you return via Deck 4. Depending on the number of passengers who return at the same time you do there can be a huge line of people at the hall elevators waiting to head up. Just walk through the crowd and up two flights of stairs to the atrium and use the atrium elevators to go back up to your cabin. It's MUCH faster! :) Ditto for heading down to Deck 4 to exit the ship for an excursion: just reverse the process. ;) After dinner, we really enjoyed the atrium coffee bar. :D
Zeno Posted April 9, 2009 #11 Share Posted April 9, 2009 I love the Sun - perfect managable size and great crew! I think my recommendations have already been made but here goes: Il Adaggio for dinner one night Las Ramblas for lunch Las Ramblas for Tapas before dinner (more than once - we only did it once to my regret) Almost forgot - The Observation lounge is a great relaxing place on days at sea and before dinner
retiredonthesea Posted April 9, 2009 #12 Share Posted April 9, 2009 I agree with the other posters about the dining venues and the observation lounge. We love to gamble and found the Sun has the best casino with a great host and wait crew. Also took home enough from our winnings to pay for the next cruise.:D
bulgargirl Posted April 9, 2009 #13 Share Posted April 9, 2009 I agree with the other posters about the dining venues and the observation lounge. We love to gamble and found the Sun has the best casino with a great host and wait crew. Also took home enough from our winnings to pay for the next cruise.:D I would like to figure out how to do that! There is a hot tub by the little kids pool. At night, when the "adult" hot tubs are completely full, you can often find the hot tub by the kiddie pool completely empty. It's nice if you want to sit in a hot tub and not share it with 10 strangers.

DMH15 Posted April 13, 2009 #15 Share Posted April 13, 2009 rosanna in the spa will give you a great massage if you like that. Bingo is too expensive on the sun, really all of ncl in my opinion. Il Adagio is the best! Loved pizza, osso bucco, steak, etc. You will love the crew. I had fun on the Sun.
nurse1960 Posted April 13, 2009 Author #16 Share Posted April 13, 2009 I called NCL and they couldn't tell me how much the spa costs. Does anybody know? How is the entertainment? Thanks to all.
nurse1960 Posted April 16, 2009 Author #17 Share Posted April 16, 2009 I did talk with them about the spa, but no help. You can only find out on the ship.

flac4vert Posted April 17, 2009 #21 Share Posted April 17, 2009 I called NCL and they couldn't tell me how much the spa costs. Does anybody know? How is the entertainment? Thanks to all. Depending on what you want to do. DW had a stone massage and I believe it was like 90.00 and then they wanted $20.00 extra to use the shower. Same on the Majesty she had a caribbean wrap, and they wanted her to pay extra for the shower. She ended up breaking out with a rash of some sort on the Majesty sailing due to something in the wrap. From what I remember most stuff was overpriced. Our friends won a couples massage and ended up not even using it because they were turned off by the treatment of DW when it came to the stone massage. That's just my opinion YMMV
