Need some Enchanting input

Recommended Posts

Ok, here is the set up. Our son is on his way to deployment in Iraq. Our daughter is now driving and able to get herself to/from school. The DW and I are booked on the Enchantment for a short cruise in August on our anniversary (27 years!). Finally some "alone" time! We will be visiting Cozumel and Key West. We are veteran cruisers and have been to these ports many times, with Cozumel being one of our favorites. We have never been on the Enchantment before.

It would be great to have some input from recent Enchantment cruisers about the ship, their favorite spots, etc. Any info wll be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations on raising such a son! I have a couple friends who have been over there both during Desert Storm and the current.

I love the Schooner Bar on the Enchantment. Beuatiful view there and it can get a little lively at night when the piano player gets going. The Solarium Pool is a very nice area to spend some time as well.

Have fun!! :D

Loved the Solarium on Enchantment...they have a snack bar in the corner to pick up some pizza, a burger or something to drink..no need for the long trek back to the Windjammer...

Please thank your son for me for his service to his country & all of us!

Outside of the view from my balcony ;), I also like the Viking Crown Lounge and also the view from the waiting area at the spa. As I sat in the spa listening to the music and looking out to an unbelievable view, I actually got a little teary-eyed. I felt so removed from the world....ahhhhhh.

I hope you like the Enchantment. DH & I love it (maybe b/c it has been our only ship!). Nonetheless, the service we experienced was superb.

Have a wonderful time!!

Right now the Enchantment is still doing the canal. I believe she will be back soon. I too am anxious to she what has changed with her since she has been down south and has been doing seven day cruises. Also she has lost a lot of wonderful crew members she once had, because they wanted bi-lingual personal, for the Panama trips. Julian the concierge is no longer on the ship, nor is Davi the wonderful manager of the Chops restaurant.

To the OP:

she is a wonderful old ship. She originated in 1997, so she is twelve years old. About five years ago she was stretched...pulled apart and a new middle was added. At that time they also added another pool, Bolero's and a Chops restaurant. The Windjammer is set up similar to the newer ships. The cabins tend to be a little smaller than the newer ships. The OS have the old lay out with the beds away from the balcony and the seating area near the sliding doors. The OS balcony is small. The GS are the normal set up, with a smaller TV than the newer ships and no whirlpool tube in the bathroom. The JS and other suites are just a tad smaller than the newer ships. The water pressure on the Enchantment is sometimes a little less than one would desire and the A/C in the cabins is not as good as on the newer ships. Things do sometimes brake down, but are fixed rapidly.

On the other hand...she is beautiful...from top to bottom. Her atrium is stunning, and has all the magnificence of all the RCI ships w/o the promenade. There is a bungee jump in the front of the ship, that I believe is unique to only this ship...and the My Fair Lady Dinning Room, is one of the prettiest MDR's of the whole ship...it is lovely with the fantastic bronze statue of Julie Andrews I believe, dressed as my fair lady, hat and all, positioned at the bottom of a romantic grand stair case taking you to the upstairs dinning area. The ship is in good condition for her age and the food has always been the same quality as on the newer ships. The Chops restaurant was one of the best...but with staff changes, that may have changed to.

Well I will see, as I travel on this wonderful ship this May.

Hope this helped.

Rev

Thanks to all for the great feedback.

aurelius180 & kc320 - We appreciate your comments. Needless to say, we are very proud of our son and his military service. Actually, he is at home right now on a 4 day pass. His unit leaves Ft. Bragg next week for Iraq.

aurelius180 - The Schooner was one of our favorites on the Sovereign class ships, but on the Voyager class it is tucked away down behind the casino so we did not use it as much. Glad to hear it is more prominent on Enchantment.

kc320 - We will most definately spend some time in the solarium. Again, we enjoyed this area on Mariner, but there was a lot of foot traffic through there to the elevators so it was not as peaceful as we had hoped. The solarium on Enchantment looks like it might be even nicer.

debshomespun - Viking Crown is our favorite spot for sunsets!

love2fish - We know exactly what you mean! That feeling of being "disconnected" from the "real world", yet very "connected" to that big blue ocean is one of the things that hooked us on cruising. In between all of the activity we always spend some quiet time enjoying the view and the soothing ocean.

RevSmith - Some great information! We plan to try the Chops on enchantment, probably on our anniversary evening. We also like Boleros on the Mariner. As a matter of fact, our avatar is a picture taken by the bartender on DW's birthday in Boleros! We can't wait to see the atrium and dining room!

I love the Schooner Bar on the Majesty and the Enchantment's is almost as good. I'm still a little partial to the Majesty's! :D

Yep, the Majesty was our first ship and always a sentimental favorite. We were back on board last August for the 4th time. I have fond memories of sitting in the Schooner in the evening waiting for DW to dress for dinner. I would have a drink (or so;)) and chat with new friends and the always cheerfull bartender. Ahhh... those were the days! I remember one bartender that worked in the Schooner on our first & second cruises way back in 1994-95. Believe it or not, he was back in there last August!! He had been around to the newer ships over the years but he said Majesty was his "home". It is so sad that she has been sold. I think I am going to go cry in a Corona now.....

My GF and I enjoyed our first sail-away from the comfort of a window seat in the Schooner Bar. Nothing like sailing out of the POM having a few coctails in the Schooner Bar. our bartender, Alvin, was incredible. I purchased many delicious drinks from that man during our cruise! Always a smile on all their faces. :)

I think you'll enjoy the Enchantment. Definately check out the Solarium! 18+ is nice... ;)

FYI, the new cabins are those ending with 068 to 083 and 568 to 583. For insides also include 877 to 881 on decks 3 and 4. Just add the deck # for the first digit.

Number 1, a big THANK YOU!!!!! from us to your son for allowing us to continue our freedoms that we enjoy soooooooooooooooo much.

Enchantment is a great ship, you will love it. I like it for all the glass it has. Several of the common areas are open view due to glass instead of steel.

My favorite place on Enchantment is the Solarium. It is surpassed by none other. It is absolutely wonderful. It is kind of nice having the eating area at the end also, but it does allow others to "invade" your space if you know what I mean. ;)

Enchantment is a wonderful ship. It is just the right size, not too big, not too small. Loved getting up early and walking the jogging track in the early morning with a coffee. As other's have mentioned solarium is great. The staff on Enchantment is the best I have encountered. So, friendly. I mentioned to our cabin steward I liked towel animals and he made mutiple ones every night. My favorite excursion of all time was the mexican cuisine tour in Cozumel. Check out my pictures in my signature. Enchantment is enchanting!
