Fisherman Blocking Ferries in France

You may have heard that, since Tuesday, fishing boats have been preventing ferries from entering or leaving Calais, Boulogne and Dunkirk by creating a blockade the entrances of the ports. This has left thousands of travelers trying to cross the English Channel stranded.

Dover is the closest cruise port to the area. We contacted a Fred.Olsen Cruise Line spokesperson, and she told Cruise Critic that she doesn’t anticipate any delays or problems while Black Watch is in port on April 18, 2009, citing that if the blockades are still occurring, police are prepared with Operation Stack and traffic diversions to ensure ships sail smoothly. Plus, there’s a wide window of time for passengers to arrive at the ship -- it arrives in the early evening and doesn’t set sail again until around midnight.
