Rooms At The Very Back Of The Ship

Exactly why I picked that deck. There were a few of the same cabin right under the lido deck, but had friends on that deck last year and they said you could hear deck chairs moving around.

I figured it's sandwiched in between passenger decks, and being at the very back. Very little hall traffic. (that is of course except for me last time on embarkation day, doing the loop around the back of the ship about 3 times before I realized I was going in circles. :p )

Ester: Do you have any pictures of that cabin? We have that cabin on the Miracle come February- Booked it November 2003.

Yes, I'll probably be posting them on my webshots photo album soon. I'll let you know when I do that. :)

One other thing I thouht was odd: almost every morning our balcony was wet. And I don't mean just damp, I mean WET. I figured it was probably run off from the Lido deck getting hosed down, anyone know about that?

I learned about that from the Victory. There is hoses that run - if you looked closely -at the ledge on balcony. Yes the balconies on the aft are hosed down to get rid of the salt. (thats what was told to me by a cabin steward on the Victory) it wards off rust. its done every day in the very early hours of the morning. (i always thought it rained)

i feel for the people who say they sleep out there..

I look forward to your pics.

We just returned a couple of weeks ago from the Conquest. We were upgraded to a 9A wrap-around balcony cabin, #7445 on the Empress deck. There was a lot of vibration during the cruise and we noticed quite a bit of rocking even though the water was very calm throughout the cruise. I could see how some would not be able to handle the vibrations and slight noise, but the balcony was awesome and it is worth it! We have another wrap-around balcony cabin booked on the Valor in May, one deck down, and we can't wait!

Hi,

We have had aft cabins on the Pride, Spirt, Glory and soon the Miracle. We love the aft cabins and wouldn't get anything else. We always get the Empress deck which sandwiches you between two decks of cabins so there is no noise from resturants, discos, etc. The balconies are somewhat deeper. I love to sit out there as we're leaving port or cruising and watch the wake of the ship with a drink or two. You also get to watch the ports as they recede behind you. It's also great for sunning when the ship is headed west. I noticed no vibration that I didn't feel elsewhere in the ship. We had some fairly good rollers some days and the aft was quite steady. A little jumpy at times but you are on a ship in the ocean and ships do move. I would not hesitate to book one.

You're the only one on this thread that mentioned the Pride... we're on deck 5 (#5268, to be exact!), aft, for a 7 day next May. How are the vibrations I'm hearing so much about? I love the idea of getting a better view, plus my TA HIGHLY recommended this room. I do tend to get motion sick easily, although I'll have to see how sailing does for me (our first cruise). Thanks for any additional info!

Laura: I am in cabin 6262 on the Miracel come February. I have sailed on a few ships aft. (its the only way I prefer to sail) I have never expereienced vibrations except on the Senstion. On The Victory we sailed between two hurricanes and still didnt experience any. But for someone who gets motion sickness early- you may feel themotion of the ship- but then you will feel the motion no matter where you are. Go for the more for your money- the balcony size- the view..etc.etc

There are sea bands that you wear on your wrist that uses accupressure to wward off sickness

This has been very informative as we also have booked an aft cabin on Triumph's Empress deck 3/05. This is the first cruise of this size for me and I don't think the motion & vibration will be a factor. We did our honeymoon cruise with Windjammer Barefoot Cruises and thought that the engine/generator noise/vibration, although not obtrusive, but noticeable, actually added to the experience. Also anyone who loves the sea as much as we do actually can't live without the "motion of the ocean" for long. Happy sailing.......

The light vibration I spoke of is a small one--VERY mild--it does not cause sea motion. The ride is smooth. On cruise ships, occasionally you do feel a motion, but with the modern stabilizers, nothing to be concerned about. Keep that aft cabin--you'll love it!

I just got of the Legend (12/22/04) and our cabin was 4237, rear Main deck. The cabin was fabulous, but there was a lot of noise and vibration there. When you add in all the passenger emergencies we had, and the fact that we were going Mach 5 four nights, and many of the days, we REALLY had a lot of rocking and rolling going on. The first night was probably the only "normal" night we had and as soon as the ship sailed we noticed it was noisy. Not having been in any of the other cabins along the side I couldn't compare but I don't think they are as noisy.

The last couple of days and nights were not very restful but part of that was because we were going 25 knots. I thoroughly enjoyed the cabin though - more than the rest of the cruise. Not a real great cruise. :(

  • 2 weeks later...
tell me more about the aft cabin balconies. We are in 8450 on Veranda Deck and I read a post here that the dividers are slanted and you lose some privacy ??? Can strollers on the decks above look down at the aft balcony??

We stayed in an aft cabin (7449 I think) on the Conquest last summer. And yes, the dividers are slanted so you can see into the other balcony if you get up to the rail. However, if you are going with others, there are some adjoining balconies back there and with 2 combined aft balconies you have something like 120 sf. Enough for 4 chairs, two loungers and small tables.

The aft balconies are almost twice the size of the side balconies. On the Empress deck, we didn't notice any movement or vibration the others have mentioned. That depends somewhat on seas and we had great weather.

My biggest complaint would be that the air doesn't move much back there. You simply don't have the breeze that you have on the sides. If you aren't traveling in really hot weather, that may not matter to you as much but it was JULY and HOT when we went.

We also didn't find it inconvenient to the rest of the ship. The Aft pool was our hangout and the restaurants are toward the aft of the ship. The casino is mid way so the only major walk was to go forward to get off in port.

(I had to grin at the comparison between the Conquest and the Holiday in earlier posts. I've stayed in a suite on the Holiday and would prefer the smallest inside cabin on the Conquest any day!) :o

My wife and I booked an outside view guarantee last January, and were upgraded to a balcony cabin on the stern of the Glory. window was unimportant, the balcony, our first one was oversize being on the stern, and severely spoiled my wife. We can no longer do without a balcony!!! The back of the boat is not a big issue, but the balcony, verandah, whatever you want to call it is definetly larger than others. We were on Empress deck 7430 or close I believe. Booked a balcony guarantee on the Victory for Jan 30 , 2005, can't wait to go!!
