lisareneeo Posted April 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2009 Will be in Freeport for a partial day. I think our ship leaves at 2:00pm What would you do in this short period of time? Really just want some good beach time but am open to suggestions. Thanks Lisa

Really just want some good beach time but am open to suggestions. Thanks Lisa This has been posted many times and debated over and over... If you are going to another port after or just left Nassau and your ship is in port for less than 5 hours you might consider staying on board.... well with a small change. There is now a small "straw market" with bar as you get off the ship (or very close) and a restaurant within a 10 min walk. Take a walk off, go check these places out and go have a nice relaxing day on board with no one around. Consider it will take you 30 min-1 hour to get off... you want to be on board with at least 30 min. to spare so it does not leave a lot of time to get to the beach... which is a 10-15 min. cab ride away. Having said all that... take a cab ($5pp each way shared cab) to Our Lucaya where you can shop/eat/drink/beach/casino all within walking distance... stay for 2-3 hours and head back to the ship... Have a great time... BTW the shops/bars/casino are not really open until after 9ish-10ish depending on time of week, except at pier.
lisareneeo Posted April 19, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted April 19, 2009 Thanks for your response. Yes, we will be in Nassau the day before. We will only be in Freeport for a short period of time but I would still love a couple of hours at a beach so maybe we will check out Our Lucaya. Is this a public beach? Thanks
momofteens Posted April 19, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2009 We were in Freeport last week for about 5 hours. We went on a caves and beach excursion at Lucayan park (norwegian Gem). The caves were nothing exciting but the beach was gorgeous. Since we were in Freeport for such a short time I was nervous about getting back to the ship on time that's why we opted for the ship excursion. Is this a public beach? Thanks There is a beach in front of the Westin/Sheraton complex... and if you are stopped going to the beach, there is a "public" entrance to the left of the Sheraton hotel... just ask where the lobster shack is and you will directions... but you should be able to just walk to the beach... now using the bathrooms may be a problem, but the casino has bathrooms, as does the shopping area... it's about 5-10 min. between beach/shopping/bar/food/etc. As someone posted you might want to just do a ship sponsered excursion at this port. BTW the restaurant near the port is over the ocean... I wound NOT swim there as they regularly feed the sharks... lol
dixieva Posted April 20, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Is this the Pier One restuarant? I wasn't sure it had re-opened yet. Do you know if the feed the sharks at lunch time or is it just dinner?
careywv Posted April 20, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2009 How long is the cab ride from the port to Our Lucaya?

bobsfamily Posted April 20, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2009 How long is the cab ride from the port to Our Lucaya? It's minimum of 10 min... and can be as much as 20 depending on time of day/time of the week/traffic/etc. If you ship leaves at 2pm I would be leaving Our Lucaya at 12:30... no reason to be left. There is nothing in Freeport that really interests me and I'm not really into shopping while I'm on vacation. Thanks.

Do walk off and have a cold one at the bar after everyone has left for excursions, then you can say you were on GBI...
